Wow... can you even use that one? I remember it didn't want to load half of my VST's, last time i gave it a try, years ago.harryupbabble wrote:REAPER 0.999 for now.

For my basic needs, which is basically just trying to write simple songs, it's quite usable.chk071 wrote:Wow... can you even use that one? I remember it didn't want to load half of my VST's, last time i gave it a try, years ago.harryupbabble wrote:REAPER 0.999 for now.
99 percent of the VSTs I use still works. But I only use freeware VSTs.
It's like... The Ramones never needed synthesizers nor complexity for their music?

Since that straw poll lets you vote without signing in, I would discount all results of polling without account verification.

Read through that. I'm in a similar situation albeit with different needs, sounds like you do mostly tracking and the like, I mostly compose with DAWs.Robert Randolph wrote:My daw info here: http://admiralbumblebee.com/music/2018/ ... nd-Me.html

I'm sure you're aware of this, but it's worth mentioning, all DAWs will eventually let you down. I started with DP 2, got annoyed by an audio clip looping bug, switched to Logic 4, got annoyed by Apple messing with the Mixer settings and key commands in 8 and switched to DP and Live. I'm currently frustrated that my main two DAWs don't support MPE or VCA faders, and working in Reaper. At the moment it's Live and Reaper. It's also very possible that I end up in Reaper and Bitwig for most of my work for MPE etc.
I've thought about Cubase for years. Cubase is almost always at the forefront of any new feature, MPE, VCA, note articulations, etc. Cubase also has had a reputation for crippling bugs, and paid upgrades that 'fix' bugs. It was over a decade that Cubase had poor performance on OSX at anything but a buffer of 1024 or above. I fear that legacy.
I think the main thing that's frustrating these days is lack of phone support. I spend weeks/months addressing any issue I have via email, and most of the time it's not resolved. NI stopped phone support in the USA here, and it cost me months of email being frustrated at Maschine thinking there was no decent solution to Maschine time signature problems, with the eventual solution coming from their forums. Not from posing the question, but venting about it. Counter intuitive, but forums are not official support. Official email support concluded that there was no solution, a phone call would have cleared it up most likely. I think this is even more true of full fledged DAWs and it's lame that most have stopped anything more than forum/email support.
This is my main big issue with Reaper, great community, great youtube tutorials, better than the rest really, but no email or phone support, just forums and other users. Who knows? there may have been a solution to your recording problem outlined in your blog, but it could be complex enough to where the time it takes to back and forth with users on a forum has it's own inertia. Big ups to MOTU and Steinberg for phone support.
So yeah, I couldn't answer this poll truthfully, since I don't really have a main DAW. Possibly Reaper, but just as possible DP 10 comes out and I'm back on it.

That's really dumb.harryupbabble wrote:REAPER 0.999 for now.
REAPER 6.0 when it arrives (with updates good up to version 7.99).
So yeah, at some point in time, my chosen DAW for life will be stuck at REAPER 7.99.

that strikes me as a singularly unpleasant, tactless thing to say.Giova942 wrote:That's really dumb.
EDIT: Were you actually trying to recommend a better path of action to the guy or to help him at all? If you were trying to help, do you think that kind of blunt insult will change anyone's mind?

Which part is really dumb? Using REAPER 0.999? It works for me.Giova942 wrote:That's really dumb.harryupbabble wrote:REAPER 0.999 for now.

I'm on a very tight budget. If making do and being a penny-pincher is dumb then I'm dumb.
But is this guy dumb too?

For the curious, I just posted the same poll on reddit's wearethemusicmakers to see how different forums compare in their DAW choices. Especially since reddit seems a bit more mainstreamy and less sworn in then kvr...

Do let us know what the results are over on Reddit at some point. I'm curious myself.paradisebunny wrote:For the curious, I just posted the same poll on reddit's wearethemusicmakers to see how different forums compare in their DAW choices. I'm already predicting REAPER being not-so-popular, though, unlike here on KVR apparently. At the time I cast my own vote, REAPER was right at the top with 10 votes, counting my own.
My solo projects:

It's the same poll, as far as i understood it. Or, in other words, he linked the same thing at Reddit.AsPeeXXXVIII wrote: Do let us know what the results are over on Reddit at some point. I'm curious myself.
I'm not sure what i should answer, BTW. In the process of moving back to Cubase Artist from Studio One, at the moment.
