... Its Just a Complicated Ga-yame

Arguing with you dumb pricks has finally shed some light as to why most of you are so f**king stupid.
A few years ago, making music with my ASR-10 and Trinity with attendant DP/4 and other lesser synths and effects was a chore. It was complicated and technical. In an effort to get out from under I bought CubaseVST. Suddenly my hardware felt like fun.
Then someone showed me Fruityloops v1.7 and music became lots more fun than it had been for a long time. Ultimately, however, I came up against significant shortcomings and things started to get boring and technical again for a while...
... until I got hold of ORION. Suddenly I had one app in which I could do everything I needed to [because I already had CE2k for audio so I didn't need that] and I didn't have to learn how to work-around anything.
It occurred to me this morning that I have never in my life been so consistently motivated to work on music as I have been over the past few years. I turn the computer on before I have a piss in the morning and I am usually on it until well after midnight most nights. This is a level of activity that I have previously only maintained for a few months after buying a new workstation or sampler.
Naturally this led me to wonder why. I came up with several things:
- I love working with V/A synths. With a ROMpler you can never start from scratch and make your own sound so you always have to rely on the included waveset but with the a quiver full of good V/A's I can do anything.
- ORION has allowed me to directly apply all the knowledge I've built up over the years without ever really having to find workarounds or learn how to do something. I can jump in and solve any problem, almost without thought.
- SynthEdit has allowed me to create the perfect instruments for my needs. No compromises and nothing that I don't foresee a need of. As my needs change, so can my perfect instruments. Perfect.
The biggest thing though, and the thing that makes you mostly idiots, is that software has allowed me to simplify like never before. I can find the one tool that does the job and stick with it, no "oh, that will have to do" or "I suppose its good enough".
Clearly I am in the minority here as vast herds of you guys seem to enjoy making things as difficult and complicated as is humanly [or machinely] possible. Multiple hosts, ReWire, multi-timbral, etc, etc - you can never get enough, can you? Whereas I can stick to the bare necessities and get it all done to my total satisfaction in record time. BRILLIANT!
