You don't read enough then. :hihi: Basically, people are against every kind of copy protection, especially dongles, thus you will read of many problems with them. Actually, what kind of issues is supposed to happen with Tone2's copy protection? The protection is a key file, and, additionally, they seem to have a system to find and deleted illegal key files (of course only from Tone2 plugins) on the computers their plugins install on. And, i wouldn't know of the second thing at all, if i hadn't read it here. As far as i know, it was "leaked" from a very reliable source. A cracker. On a warez forum. Now he's a hero, because he opened the community they eyes about the evil corporate, which consist of less than a handful of people trying to make a living with what they do.

Frankly, if i was Markus, i wouldn't bother at all though, remove the copy protection entirely, and hope for the goodwill of customers. That seems to be the more worthwhile way of dealing with those things nowadays, so that people don't think you're an asshole, and get even the crackers to get an emotional breakdown, and to stop cracking the plugins, because it's so touching, human and ethical that they get remorse, and don't crack your plugins. Because they're so good people, in the flesh. Don't laugh, you'd be surprised how often you read stuff like that in the respective forums. Of course packed in more flowery words, and with a big portion of vanity.

If I was Markus I would change the cp scheme so people that want to buy my software can.

Who can't?

It can go either way. Photoshop became so popular at the time because of the cracked copies that floated around. Eventually, people started to buy it. And at a 1000 euro a piece, it's highly profitable.

Not sure whether a synth vst, has the same market/appeal though.

maybe it's time to bring this thread back on track? 1.6 is a good update, and icarus is my fave tone2 plugin (i own or have owned most of them). right now, am down to about 7 synth plugins, it's in that group...

Actually I run Tone2 synths in Linux using Wine 8) (wine-staging and linvst). They all run fine, no problem with cp. With some companies the cp scheme is so complex, relying on additional processes, that their demo plugins cannot run. In that case I make it very simple: I forget about them.

Cheers.

Yeah please go on with the Icarus topic guys haha, you guys have been very helpfull and the discussion is something you can discuss for ages. Unfortunately I have to reinstall Windows all by itself in ordering of getting it to work, so bad luck for me, wont do that.

Really loving this synth.

Do any Icarus experts know how to set up a truly random LFO, all of the random LFO types just repeat the same pattern for me ?

Is this a bug with my system (AU/Logic 10.4.1/Sierra 10.12.6) or user error ?

Thanks for any ideas.

There is no 'true' random lfo 'shape' unfortunately. The random shapes are indeed repeating 'random' loops. They are always the same. However, i always combine the *random* mod source with the LFO's for a more random feel.

FYI, there's some pretty good iinfo coming out about Icarus V2 on the Tone2 forum. Apparently all 3 osc controls will be visible at once, rather than tabbed, as well as both filter controls and the whole matrix. Bigger arp, MSEGs, res and cutoff knobs switched to normal position, and other changes underway. Looking forward to V2!

That sounds very promising... for me the GUI has been the weak point of Icarus.

Any other info to share on I2?
