Good God! That may the first time you have said anything around here worth a pinch of shit. I'd never actually thought of that as a way of working out what's worthwhile. Still not sure if it is but its definitely an interesting perspective.
As for the poll, I would say neither. I tend to have a look at things regardless, time permitting. I don't usually look at who started a thread and I often only look at a poster's name after I've read the post.

You know you two would probably like each other in real life.
I think I prefer to hear from people who love a product and are removed enough to be critical where it's warranted and generous to other products also where warranted.
My host is not the best at everything, it's just meant to be the best for me. And I respect people more if they talk about their own hosts in the same way.
I'm currently having a blast with energyXT and surely noone forgets how much I love Muzys. I wouldn't even have to try to find a host that does at least some things better than either of those - even perhaps MUCH better.
You know I reckon Podium looks like a great up-and-coming sequencer that's already got some ideas in its architecture that are beyond what I've seen in the high-end hosts and Traktion - well we all regularly read about how its difference in design is winning people over. And Ableton Live is really making a name for itself, and then everyone gets really generous and turns their hosts into VSTi or ReWire Clients/Hosts suddenly meaning you can exploit the advantages of more than one host at the same time!
But because of all this - in the end I think all the comments about a host, whether bad or good, whether from a fanboy or from a level-headed objective perspective should only really be influencing people enough to try the damn thing not buy the damn thing.

I have to more or less say yes and no. Kinda depends on the spin and bias of the review and the "apparent" knowledge behind the bias. Truly bad products wouldn't have fanboys other than the dev would they? Every product has something to offer but that doesn't mean I'll like it or consider using it
