Kontakt 6 - any rumors about release?

Wide mode is for scripted instruments. Goes from the default 632x540 from K5.5.2 and earlier to a max 1000x750. Cannot really use that on old instruments as they all depend on raster graphics.

Developers certainly needed those features, tho.mholloway wrote:EvilDragon wrote:
You don't need to see, you need to hear. The wavetable oscillator sounds great, the Replika delay and new algo reverbs are stellar.
You know what I didn't need inside my sampler, though? A new algo reverb -- I'm covered there, really, truly.
You know what else I didn't need in my sampler? Wavetable synthesis...I'm well covered there, too, really, truly.
You know what else I didn't need in my samler? A delay plugin I already own.

I'm not a Kontakt developer. I'm a user that thinks the interface needs an overhaul to join the 2ks. The UI is already terribly small, hard to read and sometimes the editor pages are difficult to get the mouse point to work on a control on a 30" 2560x1600. I can't image how asstastic it will be on a UHD or 4k setup.EvilDragon wrote:Developers certainly needed those features, tho.

UI overhaul will happen, but it's not an easy task so it will take some more time. I'm a developer and user and I do agree that UI needs an overhaul, and what do you know, Kontakt team also agrees with me. But it is a Herculean task to do, and there are some very good (albeit unfortunate) reasons why this didn't happen in K6.
Also note, the UI overhaul likely won't be able to do anything with how the libraries look, if they're at 1000xsomething they'll stay at 1000xsomething, if they're at 632xsomething they will stay like that, because raster graphics.

I have to agree. I love Kontakt but the whole multi-out system is a nightmare which melts my brain.SJ_Digriz wrote:Trying to set number of outputs to instruments per instance if an f'n nightmare. Why the heck do I want to reset that internally every time? Those tiny little edit windows for output channels are terrible. Having to open each one at a time, only to find it is missmapped and has to be reset one at a time ..............I have no idea why you are defending that crap process. It is awful.

Just so we're on the same page here, I have been using Kontakt for a long long time. There are lot of things to like about it even beyond the fact that it is now the virtual library standard. So, it's not like I'm going to quit using it. I'm simply saying that, from a user perspective, this feels more like K5.9 than K6. So far I don't see any reason to shell out $100. I'm not sure I'd bother if it was $25, although I might just to keep current. But, $100? So far that's a nope.
I get that it is time consuming ... it's been a LONG time since K5. User experience with the interface should have been #1 IMO.EvilDragon wrote:UI overhaul will happen, but it's not an easy task so it will take some more time. Sure, fixed sized graphics and all that. I get it. At least at that point we yell at the vendors to update their K graphics resources. Also note, the UI overhaul likely won't be able to do anything with how the libraries look, if they're at 1000xsomething they'll stay at 1000xsomething, if they're at 632xsomething they will stay like that, because raster graphics.

Fully agreed with you there, but you're not privy to the situation behind the scenes... various <NDA infomation> happened along the way.SJ_Digriz wrote:User experience with the interface should have been #1 IMO.

hehehe I follow that business stuff happens .. however again, I'm a user. Business problems are the problem of the business up to the point that the business problems cause us users to look elsewhere. Granted, that isn't likely to happen to Kontakt due to the library support. But, stranger things have happened. And, I'm not even threatening to have any kind of protest or anything. I'm not even "mad/upset" even though posting via thread about complaints probably make it sound that way. Disappointed, a little sure. Upset/Mad. No. To repeat the repetitive point again redundantly, I just don't see a value here for me.EvilDragon wrote:Fully agreed with you there, but you're not privy to the situation behind the scenes... various <NDA infomation> happened along the way.SJ_Digriz wrote:User experience with the interface should have been #1 IMO.

Mario, not as efficient as the one you can find in Padshop Pro / HALion 4-5-6, or even other granular soft synths such as Falcon or even Omniphere 2, c'mon...EvilDragon wrote:There is but it's pretty old (Tone Machine).
Maybe I was expecting too much.

I did say it's "pretty old", didn't I? It's dedicated, and it's granular, if you don't like it that's another thing altogether.

Hey Mario,
Anyway, and again. Pretty disappointed. Not wanting to rant, I'm sure the new K6 rocks... And definitely not wanting to go into a heated discussion with you... That's my problem. Back to sucking it up.
You sure did, not denying that.EvilDragon wrote:I did say it's "pretty old", didn't I?
Oh, yeah. Of course. It's like comparing a Porsche to a wheeled cart... Sure. It rolls.EvilDragon wrote:It's dedicated, and it's granular, if you don't like it that's another thing altogether.

Hey, don't worry. It would def be cool to have a more modern granular engine in Kontakt, for sure. I'll push for it, but there are other more pressing matters
