iZotope speaks a lot - but unfortunately mainly b------t.
I got on weekly basis some market information from the company.

The latest one came todays: it says in the header (a direct reference)
"Free upgrade to RX 7 ends tomorrow".
The RX6 owner may think, that wow, what a great news.
But no. It doesn't mean what it says.

I've got almost every iZotope product, among others the latest Music Production Suite.

The company rewards the loyal customer by sending a lot of nonsence spam, but so far among those market trash, not a single real offer, during all these years.

:clown:  :scared: :help: :dog:

Amen!

This is one of the companies that has annoyed me with the ussual last time and best all time offer final flash sale that ends soon. And when it ends .. another just starts.

I unsubscribed from their mailing list. Advised to all.
A world free from iZotope marketing heals the soul.

I purchased the latest Music Production Suite from them about two weeks before the RX7 announcement. I contacted them asking if I qualified for the upgrade and they said they would upgrade mine for free. I'm glad I purchased my izotope products when I did, and happy they were able to give me the upgrade. I consider myself lucky to have got it though, and understand if I were any later I probably wouldn't have got the upgrade.

I'll also say they gave me a good deal on Music Production Suite because I had multiple various other products from them. (Mostly elements versions of things).

Reach out to them and ask, they've only been great for me so far. And they really have some of the best plugins for what they do.

I'm no fan of iZotope's business model but my own interactions with the company have been fine. I bought Trash 2 shortly before they started bundling the expansions with it, i contacted them and they gave me codes for the expansions. Not a big deal but i can't fault them in this regard. What i have issue with is the short life cycle of products, paid updates after 12-18 months is just too soon in my opinion.

But hey, it obviously works for them and the fanbois are happy to keep paying and defending it so i see no likelihood it will change. RX is pretty much industry standard now so there's not much choice in the matter anyway.

To clear that up: What it means that, if you upgrade to RX6 now, you will get RX7 for free, when it comes out. So, i wouldn't necessarily say it is incorrect. It's just wrapped up marketing blurb, like you often see from most other companies as well.

I rather assume the hate here stems from the fact that they send a lot of emails. Yes, they do. There are ways to prevent getting those emails though, if you want to. So far, i have gotten two quasi freebies from iZotope. The delay, and Ozone 8 Elements, which costs 129 € officially. Can't complain really.

I for one find
wrapped up marketing blurb, like you often see from most other companies as well
to be offensive and worthy of criticism.

Well... if you go for a phone and internet contract these days, you also get sold on a "19,95 € per month!" deal , which turns out to cost 34,95 after 12 months. I don't think the customer is relieved from retrieving info, and finding out what the marketing blurb really means. At least it is very stupid, and careless not to do so.

Unfortunately, many seem to be stupid and careless these days, otherwise companies wouldn't adress stupiditiy, and careless-ness the whole time.

Intentionally confusing pricing is immoral IMO. The people who choose to implement it should be ashamed.http://dilbert.com/strip/2010-11-21

It deliberately introduces inefficiency by giving people a choice between burning time and energy to get through needless confusion, or paying extra. This is clearly antisocial.

Compare and contrast with selling a reduced-price product in kit form. If I buy a kit and assemble it I am still trading time for money but the time is being used constructively for something that is necessary.

Post

Just to mention: Their support staff is incredibly responsive and helpful. Never had an issue with them and like their products.
Also, don't get their promotional emails... maybe unsubscribed just don't remember. :)

If you think about it, the real background is much more ashaming. People literally giving a crap about what's written on bills. Or reading the fine print. Companies can and will always argue that they listed, and wrote all the info necessary.

Two remarks on this:

1) I wouldn´t mind on this kind of marketing, if there was any intelligence included. iZotope has developed many good products, but it seems like moran is running their marketing. Nowdays its so easy target and personalize sales messages, why on earth do they send "Free upgrade to RX 7 ends tomorrow" for the client, who already owns the RX6? Instead of this waste of my time and their own resources, they could formulate a couple of different sales pitches for those, who own previous versions of the RX. E.g."now you get the early adaptors RX7 upgrade by...".

2) If the company rewards the new buyers of the product (RX6 /free upgrade to RX7), and gives a s++t for the clients, who have purchased most the their products, by not even bothering sending them an offer, its no wonder that some of the loyal customers get annoyed.

This actually isn't the company not caring how it markets. This is a rather common problem. It's caused by either the customer database not being updated or not having enough details of customer transactions in the database. Well, sometimes not even having a database of customer order details. I'm sure the company would love to send specific offers tailored to each customer, but if your database doesn't have that information or it isn't easily retrievable then this happens.

I've had this problem with several companies where I felt if they'd send me offers for what I needed rather than what I already had I'd probably buy something. I won't list names here, but there's a couple of companies where I own everything but one thing and they never send me anything related to that missing plugin- not in at least two years. I just delete the emails. But yes, they could save some cyber trees by not sending them at all...

I believe this is the case with izotope. Sometimes it benefits the customers (for example, I have upgrade offers as if I have ozone 7 standard, while I actually only have ozone elements). But it can also results in annoying promotional mail as in OP's case.

Steinberg is much better in this regards. They only send offers for products I actually own.

@OP: if it became too annoying, just unsubscribe from their mailing list and wait for someone to post the offers here in KVR.
