I think the Field sample based ambience generator is pretty nice, is there anything alse out there like it?

I really would advise you to go out with a microphone, minidisc recorder, whatever..

just walk through some busy streets, in shops, anywhere

you'll get tons of great material, and all original

yeah Field was really just an experiment.. lots of people find it useful.. or at least it gives them some ideas.. but at this point about 10,000 people have downloaded it..

i guess it will be time to update it soon.. and make it a bit easier to use it for more versatile things.

well Field is almost a year old now.. and thus doesnt gain from any of SE's updates in about the past year..

like i said.. time to update it.

I would have suggested Morpheus it's a SE creation.
Ingeniously simply but only works with 16bit 44.1 khz
.wav files.
Basically a Carrier / Modulator FM synth with dual ADSR's ,filters and the modulator/carrier are any .wav files you can load into it.
Bog standard simple interface but capable of some fantastically disturbed ambient soundscapes.
