On Saturday night I completed a recording session in Sound Forge Pro 12.1 and wanted to save my work. When I selected either Save or Save As, a dialog box popped up saying "An error occurred while creating the media file. There is no license to use the software."
This is now the second time this has happened since I upgraded from Sound Forge 11 and was fixed by a re-install the last time. This meant my work was lost as well as all of my preferences settings and vst favourites.
I hoped Magix could offer me a better option as I didnt want to lose my evenings work. Unfortunately it took them until Tuesday to respond, by which time my work was again lost along with my preferences & vst favourites.
Support responded by asking if I'd tried saving in different formats and did I have administrate rights for my computer, which I have of course. No other solution has been suggested so far.
Has anyone else had this problem since upgrading to the 64bit Soundforge 12? Any ideas about how to fix it? I don't feel I can trust this software with my work as things are ...
Thanks for any suggestions.

[Update]
Magix support suggested altering my registry to restore my preferences. This has worked after re-installing SF 12.1 ... but doesn't guarantee that it wont fail again. Support tells me that nobody else has reported this issue, so looks like its just me
I'm on Win 8.1, i7, 24GB RAM.

After the re-install things seem to be working properly again. I'm still puzzled as to why the program has "died" on me twice since upgrading to 64bit. Suddenly getting the error message "An error occurred while creating the media file. There is no license to use the software" in the middle of a recording session is extremely annoying. It seems its only me having this problem tho', so makes it difficult for support to offer any advice. Thanks to Craig at Magix for trying anyway.

This happened to me yesterday as well. Win 7 Pro 64/Sound Forge Pro 12. Sound Forge would not save any combination of bit depth/sample rate, and showed the same error mentioned above. I will try uninstalling/re-install.
Curious to know how many are affected by this.

A reinstall and reactivation solved it for now. Maybe my music PC was offline too long?

This isn't exactly what I call "the program will notify you" though.

Sorry but I don't remember exactly. I think it was a preferences file, but not sure. I would contact support if i was you. SF 12 has been stable for me since the reported issue in 2018.Lotuz2019 wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2020 4:09 pm This happened to me today (SFAS13). I will try a reinstall, but can you let me know what exactly you had to do to the registry?

I just ran Sound Forge 12 and had my internet connection on for my machine (It's usually off, except for software updates...), and I did the drop-down under help, selected "check for news". It opens a window telling me about some upgrade. I then turn off my internet connection, and was able to save files again, without resorting to re-installing the program.
It seems from Magix's support docs on their website, the software needs to be validated every month with an active internet connection. This seems to be the easiest way to do this, and it doesn't open up a web browser.
I hope this helps. If something changes, I'll come back and report.

Happened to me too.
