In the meantime I asked the Roland Cloud support if it would be legit to ask a user who has access to both the hardware and the cloud version to convert the banks and to share them through a music forum.
The answer was: "Sure"
I also asked if Roland could provide the banks in the system-8 cloud format.
The answer was: "I've added that to our request list."

I would say then that it is safe to share the banks

I admit tat opposig to some other Roland Cloud synths like eg. Jupiter-8, D-50 and JV-1080 (+ the SRX ones) i had rarely used the System-8 plugin so far but with the latest update it's almost like a new synth for me.

After checking the new Jupiter-8 filter now i created a patch that combines the new FM Oscs and the Formant filters. With the latest update the System-8 plugin offers a lot of additional options for sound design and sound wise it is very nice too (especially with the new analog filter models...).

With the new filters it is easier to create some of the more "classic" analog style sounds while System-8 also offers options to create sounds not possible with the vintage analog synth emulations.

I've got the hardware, and I've spent A LOT of time with the System-8, Juno-106, and Jupiter-8...at first I was all about the Jupiter, then the Juno came out and I was using that a bit, but in the last few months, especially since the update, the System-8 has really impressed. It's a fantastic synth. The original engine feels like the quintessential Roland synth, so very easy to create detuned stacks using the color knob, and making huge leads, pads, and basses (on top of your bread and butter VA sounds). With the introduction of the new oscs and filters, it's become incredibly versatile. The FM oscs in particular are fantastic. You can DX style electric pianos, pads, or basses and combine them with a wide array of analog style filters (not to mention the basic VA architecture, which is just easier to program than a DX-style synth).

The Jupiter is just boring by comparison (I sometimes suspect the real thing can't be that vanilla and maybe the Roland model isn't up to snuff), and the Juno/JP-X are just very limited. If you have the hardware, or the cloud, don't sleep on the System-8. It's really the star in the package IMO.

I have the System-8 hardware here, too.

It was standing upright against a wall and fell on it's backside with a loud bang.
And nothing happened to it.. Seems roadworthy.

After the system 8 engine my favorite is the System 100, that thing sounds really vintage and wild.

One bigger problem with the System-8 plugin and also the hardware is that they do not offer using aftertouch modulation. I have no clue why so many new hardware synths and controllers including more expensive ones do not offer this important feature. Even my more than 30 years old Korg DW-8000 has it...

In Ableton Live Suite 10 i am able to solve this by using the "Expression Control" Max 4 Live device. As in Live 10 Max 4 Live is integrated with the Live software and no longer started as a separate software it works quite nicely and stable now and Max 4 Live devices are also loaded much faster now as Max 4 Live is loaded when you start Live 10.
With the Expression Control device you could map Aftertouch, Modwheel, Velocity, Pitchbend and Keytracking to all parameters of the synth that could be automated in Live.

AFAIK? No. It's only 475 days since announced on the Roland Cloud website (May 30th, 2017) though. So be reasonable and give it a few more years.

Even if launched, remember, YOURS is a "free gift" offer. It is not something being sold to you. The only thing sold is a rental service. So keep this in mind regarding your expectations of any consumer protections / legal rights.

The way things are going, by the time YOURS is launched, Behringer will be offering hardware analogue versions for less than Roland's yearly rental fee..

Sure, but, i thought it was worth mentioning anyway, because i remember Roland got a lot of sh** for their emus at first.

I only can second what StarskyCarr said about the Roland Cloud though. If the plugins would cost $99, and you wouldn't have to rent the whole collection, then i, and probably others too, would definitely consider buying them single. I don't need the whole Cloud, i'm always only interested in single plugins.

Sure, but, i thought it was worth mentioning anyway, because i remember Roland got a lot of sh** for their emus at first.

If I remember well, the critics (I was one of them) were essentially pointed to poorly optimized code, that basically squeezed all the juice from the CPU for a mere four voice chord, and poorly done GUIs, that couldn't even be resized.

Quality was never questioned, AFAIR. And now the code is much better (although still heavy on CPU) and the GUIs were redone to allow resizing without becoming blurred.

Well, I'm a subscriber, but besides the Legendary Series, I have only installed the System-8. I don't give a damn about the rest. But I think that the subscription is justified by just the Legendary Collection. I just hope they keep it growing.

Any A/B's of the cloud and a hardware Jupiter-8? I find the cloud version super boring sounding (not a ton of bottom end, weakish filter) whereas the hardware is supposed to be a holy grail synth by many accounts. I wonder if the hardware is just overrated or if Roland got the software wrong.

Love the Juno though. Sounds like I'd expect. And the System-8 is an underrated gem. Especially with the recent summer updates.
