So... who’s jumping on board and what are your views, any one used it already and thoughts?

Post

How much patterns are there?
Are there separate outputs
Thanks!

Having read the manual, no mention of loading your own samples and no mention of separate outputs, as for patterns (sequences) there doesn't seem to be many but they are divided into groups for kick, snare, clap, cymbals. there are however a lot of drum single shot hits and kits, the kits I'm guessing are just a combination of random sequences already provided for each sound

Thanks for the Info so far! So lets wait for some youtube Reviews...

Hopefully sep outs will work as per usual in the UVI player - the middle tab with 3 lines, then expert mode (small cog on the right next to the memory size), then route.

There are a lot of great concepts in that synth but I am not sure I want all my drums to run in UVI Workstation. One thing - there are over 5k samples and 2k presets, that is really impressive. And just watching the demo with some of the layering techniques is inspiring, I will try something similar in ImpactXT for claps and snares.

I've been messing with this for about 3 hours now, there are indeed multiple outputs.

The swing setting gives you choices of 1/4 - 1/32 note swing. The grid has 1/4/1/32 resolution with triplet options. The ui visualizes the sequencer nicely and has a good presentation for velocity as well. Many, many presets from a variety of styles. My ballpark about estimate is about 180 kit+sequence presets, then about 80 sequence presets for the single track sequences. Many samples for transients and tails and such, looks like 100 something kick transients, 50 kick tails, many as well for claps and cymbals and such. I don't see any facility for supplying custom samples into the drum editing interface. I haven't read the manual yet. I've mostly been enjoying the grooves and playing around.

The envelope curves and knob controls allow for some really deep custom sound tweaking. You don't often appreciate how such small curve warpings can affect the character of a drum thunk, it has been very interesting.

It sounds really good and is quite fun to play with. I do find myself wanting to bring in sounds from the beatbox anthology 2 library. I also wish for some more swing template presets. Tracktion waveform has a really cool method for handling those, reason also has an interesting groove system. The genre selection is curious, you can't please everyone with that kind of stuff though. You'd think there would be 'house' or 'breaks' categories. Those styles are represented but they're part of other categories.
Having the tracks be varying lengths for polyrhytm purposes would have been nice as well, like the old izotope breaktweaker plugin. These are small complaints. I can easily pull midi out of it if I want to do something cute with the groove timing or overlapping rhythms.

Its worth the money for what it is, a very well thought out interface for layering percussive sounds together, fine tuning their sound and laying out dance grooves. I'll investigate the manual and the possibility of custom samples tomorrow.

Is there synthesis or it is pure sampler? From product info it is not clear to me.

You might be able to use custom samples if you've invested in Falcon.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share. I am really interested in this one!

Mix of both.
This allows us to have cymbal texture or kick tone of user desired length using wavetable and looped samples.
Clap as well use a mini sequencer to generate the end result, so you can consider this a bit as synthesis.

There is a dedicated preset for this so it works out of the box.

No user samples but we provided a lot of atoms that allows you to create your own stuff by mix matching those.

5,736 Samples, 2,040 Presets, 316 Kits, 424 Kicks, 399 Snares, 325 Claps, 446 Cymbals, 112 Sequences

And yes, separate outputs.
There are dedicated presets for individual generator (kick, snare, clap, cymbals)
so if you need 9 snare and 12 kick, you're good to go as well :)
