idealy I'd want the arrangement and transport at the very bottom right on the left monitor, mixer on the bottom of the right monitor and panel popups/everything else above the mixer.
I've seen people with the mixer and arrangement spread out across both monitors. I don't know, that seems tacky to me. And the break between monitors, unless you have some of the newest LCDs, is usually jarring and makes it look janky.
I've seen 19" LCDs now with less than half an inch bezels on the edges... $_$

Cheers Devon..I'll check that out. I must admit that I just spent 2 full days playing around with it, and got into some serious audio clip editing. Took a while and I needed to RTFM in some detail, but I managed to get it to do some fancy stuff. So far I have to go through several pages to edit the way I want, but it works...a shortcut will be handy though. You want to make a multi lane edit perm, or just an edit perm? There is an option on the right click menu that makes the change perm.... the name of it is slipping my mind.... It's not REAL opbvious what it is, but once you know what it is. I'm not at home to check, sorry.
It actually impressed me, some of the different things SX does - far superior editing capabilities than in VST5 - the sample editor is almost a proper tool now - decent zooming factor down to sample accurate, and I particularly like the way you can render selected parts within an existing clip. Very useful. Initially I also didn't like the way you can't seem to turn off snap, so that you can move individual snippets freely, but then I sussed out the snap marker - even that has its advantages I see.
A different beastie from VST5 indeed, but I am finding some very good features hidden away inside it.
I'm almost in heaven now. New PC, XP seems to be stable enough - no hangups or crashes even when doing some serious editing while playing. I can even use a 20second reverb IR without rendering to audio now! (Although I still do - no point in flogging a PC needlessly).
It definitely isn't as quick or easy as VST5, but it really does do an awful lot more. Slowly but surely SX is starting to impress me. I thought about getting the cheap upgrade to SX3...but really SX2.2 does everything that I can use and more. Cubase was always the best for midi IMO, but now it's pretty well come of age with audio too. Nice.

And an unlimited undo with a full history to undo selected processing...I didn't know how much I missed that feature, for sure.
And... I particularly like the multiband comp - I think it'll take over from Endorphin! (I never thought I'd hear myself say that.
Some excellent plugins included...the upgrade to the stepfilter is sweet, and Tonic is going to be heavily used methinks. After only 2 weeks with SX, I feel I finally have a complete audio host.
Steinberg come in for alot of bashing, but they really have done a good job on SX - so it's not perfect...no host will ever be for everyone...but there's not much you can't do with it now. I can see a workaround for any complicated editing I might want to do; not always the case with VST5.

HI
Sounds like I might have some fun when I get my upgrade to SX V3 from Arbiter next week along with my Dual Xeon 3.06Mhz PC from Carillon the week after?
Flipper.

Ok, got it. Select a portion of a wav, then audio/bounce selection. Go back to the pool, then select the new wav, then right click, audio/bounce selection. It'll ask for a name, then boom, it's done.

Just read this thread for the first time. Select the audio track and click the 'e' edit button over on the left inspector pane (ensure main track inspector is showing).egbert wrote:Yeah - but it is crippled. You can turn an instert, Eq or Send on or off but you cannot adjust the level of the send or launch the editor of an insert. You have to leave this view to do anything - dumb.georgelegeriii wrote:You can.. they have a small generic view of Send levels, EQ, and inserts..egbert wrote: I would prefer to be see some combination of inserts and sends - why the F%$# can't they offer this as an option?Regards,

George
In Logic - as you know well George - you can do both.
Same goes for host Eq but I rarely use them.
Eg
In the resulting track dialog that comes up, click any of the 'e' edit buttons on each of the inserts to bring up the editor, and drag the small green bar from the left on each send routing to adjust the level.
hope this helps

Mine's a Stella. Cheers !

Thanks - I found that one. It was the fact I needed to edit from within the Pool that had me stumped to start with. It seemed a bit roundabout at first, but I quite like that you do the editing in the Pool now...it makes it function more like a separate audio editor; plus the fact I can edit a clip, bounce it to a new folder, and keep various versions within the pool with or without bouncing.Ok, got it. Select a portion of a wav, then audio/bounce selection. Go back to the pool, then select the new wav, then right click, audio/bounce selection. It'll ask for a name, then boom, it's done.

In fact I found this all out while I was truncating those Eventide 4500 IRs. Very sweet. You lucky boy Devon. If I were to buy any new h/w in future, I think it would be an Eventide. Which I suppose you can now use seemlessly within SX3 nowadays? The wishlist just never ends does it?

I use it seamlessly with my Pulsar II via SPDIF at least, and it's easy to route around in the SFP environment.kritikon wrote:In fact I found this all out while I was truncating those Eventide 4500 IRs.
