No idea but even if you had to subscribe would be around $100 / year to get your music distributed and get royalties from it, which seems okay to me.

Spotify is a bit expensive for me to subscribe to - I just dont spend enough time listening to music and we dont have proper universal internet in Australia anyway. Shame coz Spotify has a great coverage of music

Yes, I have seen artist release their stuff in Spotify first instead Apple Music etc.
