Electra2 is definitely superb. It's capable of so much....a true workhorse.chk071 wrote:I demo'd Electra2 today, still my favorite of the Tone2 synths. And the LP Butter, LP Tone2 filters, and the new fx's (especially the reverbs) really make great additions to it. Sound superb. Really great updates. I demo'd Icraus yesterday, but, quite frankly didn't like it as much as Electra2. It somehow has the edge over the others soundwise, IMO.
Think i'll get it on the next of their sales.
Highly recommended.

Haha! Yes, the reverb makes all these synths the same.cowby wrote:
Last note that I've observed from the forum ... Some members said Tone2's synths are so similar to each other. I partly agreed because their demo patches are full of the BIG REVERB !
Cheers!

But seriously, there is no overlap between all of Tone2 synths. I just don't see it. Each is unique and offers exclusive features and synthesis methods. Maybe people are getting mislead by the GUI design...I dunno...but there is a world of difference between all synths. I mean, how is RayBlaster similar to Electra2 as an example?

Expecting more sales on Black Friday, might be a 2 for 1 deal or just a discount, no real way of knowing.JunSev wrote:do someone know if Best Services will offer 2 for 1 deal of tone2 products again? maybe this Christmas or other time?
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I can easily agree with Electra X with being a favorite, as it’s probably the best sounding “VA workstation” type synth Tone2 offers (I guess Saurus might be a warmer sounding synth but, Electra X is close enough, and you can stack 4 Saurus type sounds if you want to). Icarus is pretty cool too, though. It’s a real tweaker’s synth, aimed squarely at the Serum crowd. The presets are ok but, I think that it’s hard to really appreciate the value of Icarus unless you really get in there, and mess with the wave tables. It just depends on what you want to do.
I also have Rayblaster, Nemesis, and Gladiator. Each one is good in its own right. I probably wouldn’t have bought Rayblaster or Nemesis if there hadn’t been the Best Service deal, though. That doesn’t take anything away from them. They’re great synths, just kind of weird (in a good way, I mean they approach synthesis differently). All of them do a great job of sounding huge, with a reasonable hit to the CPU. That’s probably where Tone2 synths really manage to stand out.

Thinking about it again after demoing Icarus a bit more, i'd really go for that one. Most straight forward architecture of the bunch, and the sound is nice. Which is also nice is that it allows for wave import and wavetable creation.

Icarus may be one of the most overlooked/unerrated synths out there, give it a really good demo, its deepchk071 wrote:Thinking about it again after demoing Icarus a bit more, i'd really go for that one. I had Serum so didn't think I needed/wanted Icarus...I picked it up in the 2 for 1 sale and haven't looked back....its a great synth, probably the most advanced wavetable synth available in any format...just needs a bit of a GUI facelift for hi-res monitors (which they have said is coming, Tone2 have been very generous and quite prolific with the free updates lately)
.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I like Electra less than their other synths, but still like it.
I'm still happy for my choice of two last sale and those are RayBlaster and Nemesis. If I have the money, Gladiator would be my next purchase (together with Icarus).
After all, it depends on what genre and how you use the synths. I like 80's and sci-fi kind of music, so those synths are a better fit than Electra. I haven't tried Saurus, because I have many similar synths.

Agree with the "plastic" comment. Tone2 stuff is overrated and the dev is a bit of a dick.

Have you tried Icarus?
I really do find that one very different sounding than all their other synths....which indeed to me had a 'sound'.
