edit: If anyone read what I typed here earlier, I'm a moron. I was thinking of pcie 1x cards, not old pci bus cards: you can use an old pci card on a pcie slot, but only with an adapter.
for the OP, that 25 dollar syba FW card is the exact one i've had installed in my windows pc (and for a while it was a hackintosh, too) since 2013, running my pro 24 DSP. zero issues.
