What is the difference between a PCI card and a PCIe then?

PCI is old, and it's very unlikely that any new PC/motherboard you buy new still has a PCI slot. PCIe is its successor.

edit: If anyone read what I typed here earlier, I'm a moron. I was thinking of pcie 1x cards, not old pci bus cards: you can use an old pci card on a pcie slot, but only with an adapter.


for the OP, that 25 dollar syba FW card is the exact one i've had installed in my windows pc (and for a while it was a hackintosh, too) since 2013, running my pro 24 DSP. zero issues.

Tascam US 20x20 has 10 analog ins/outs, digital coax IO and 8 ADAT optical IO simultaneously through USB 3. It also has wordclock, so it seems a good choice for what you want. Drivers had some problems in the past with Windows 10, but they seem to be working fine now. Price is decent, too.
