I've heard lots said about varying hosts taking longer to start than others, ie: Sonar allegedly taking a few seconds whilst Cubase can allegedly take a minute or two depending on the amount of vst's registered.
My question is, why is this a problem?

That's so weird that I was posting in another thread about this and didn't post because I didn't want to go off topic.
I wanted to know the same thing. I don't really care a whole lot that cubase takes 4-6 seconds to scan for 60 or 70 plug ins. Even when I had a complete shitload of 150 or so it didn't bother me with 12 second load times.
I've only had to restart cubase about 2 or 3 times because of a glitch. So I guess I'm lucky?

They're all quick enough, aren't they?
eXT doesn't do the normal scan, so opens instantly.
Tracktion's scanning can take a long time, but it can be switched off, so it also opens quickly.
Orion is instant.
Podium is ultra-fast.

Live 3 used to be a problem for me. I have a lot of VSTi installed and it has to check them even though it could not support them. It used to take about 3 mins to load a blank project
Live 4 is much better though.

That's true, but if you right-click to insert a VST-plugin for the first time and if you have a lot of plugins, it can take a few seconds to build the list to select fromchagzuki wrote:eXT doesn't do the normal scan, so opens instantly.
