Listening now. Okay, at about half the price, this is a no brainer. The quality is crystal clear and off the charts amazing. The ensemble sounds, however they're done, are fantastic.

I should have known, after VSL, if you recommended something, it had to be good.

You're already more or less sold I see now, so no overkill.

Yeah, as far as trumpet, trombone and saxes, and the jazz flute is a dream, clarinet too, I find most things don't stack up next to it. the thing you mentioned I never looked at owing to the price point and around the time I became aware I also learned of WarpIV. I bought the bundle in 2009 or 2010 for seems like around 12 but this was before Legendary Trombone which he gave me for free when it came out.

Ok, this is a great demonstration of the Screaming Trumpet Pro and realism:

click on the url to go to the spot in the video. Which is Steinman talking to some guy about how he does the track and about the approaches in the library a little bit. But at 4:02 is the track. Here is very prominent lead horn and pretty exposed.

I had a demonstration video by Realitone, who licensed this one and made a cut-down version with a wholly different interface but he was just doodling a bunch of C major stuff which wasn't too musical so I didn't find it very apt after hearing more of it.

Yep, that and the mix. I've been listening to a ton of big band and 1940s soundtrack stuff.

The original demos were straight-up jazz. I found these just now and he likes the rock rhythm section. I didn't know he did all this music.
He has a heavy day job, writing predictive software for the DOD. That's where 'WarpIV' comes from, time warp. Very advanced stuff.

I'm very impressed. And I don't impress easy anymore. Those trumpets are off the charts amazing. I've never heard anything like them.

If they piss you off bite your tongue, and instead leave in some low level backwards swearing.

Can't help you with the brass (or sinthesisers, or strings..or..) but if you need some poorly played indie guitar...

Impact Soundworks' Straight Ahead Jazz Horns is also one to consider, in addition to the Project SAM stuff. I've used that a few times and it's really built for the big band sound, from the number of instruments to the idiomatic articulations such as falls and shakes. There's also Sample Modeling/Audio Modeling stuff which is great but might have too much of a learning curve for this, unless you've got a MIDI wind controller.

Could also fill in some bits with Blue Street Brass, could be good for solos. It's not big or flexible, but like Screaming Trumpet or Banda VSTi, it does the sounds it does very convincingly.

Thanks. Based on your own words, doesn't sound like something I'd even be remotely interested in if I'm going for a top of the line sound.

I was disappointed, but to be fair others seem to love it. So much is a matter of taste.

If there is anything you can share when you have created your works, it would be fun to hear. You have some nice compositions.

Only Sample/Audio modeling will give you realistic instruments with any flexibility - you can do any style, not only jazz (it's also the only thing on the market that can do realistic Balkan brass type music)... All these multi-gb sample libraries sound fake to me, I'm sorry. It may be pain in the ass to learn them, but it's worth it even if you use them only as lead instruments, because nothing is closer to the real thing than them.
