Demo for a single patch Elevation for Icarus, re-synthesized/wave-tabled electric guitar feedback tones, layered in three oscillators. Modulation wheel/aftertouch and pitchbend action was recorded while playing the demo.

Dreamy music combining three patches from Elevation for Icarus - some volume automation and a limiter on the master output. Only a few days of work left for this project, all fence-sitters should pre-order soon, if they want to save some cash.

Thank you, the PDF with the patch descriptions is almost done, I'm planning to release Elevation on Friday.

Post

Slightly soundtrack-ish demo using three patches from Elevation, a limiter on the master output, 100% Icarus.

Post

Improvising with a patch from the Instruments&Synths-category from Elevation for Icarus.

Patch description:
Re-synthesized/wave-tabled guitar chord (acoustic guitar) in OSC1 routed through a tuned PM filter (guitar) in F1, re-synthesized/wave-tabled guitar repetitions (on the same pitch) in OSC2 routed to HP filter in F2. MW adds tempo-synced cutoff modulation via Step in F1 (resulting in pitch modulation) and amplitude modulation in F2 (also via Step). AT adds vibrato (not affecting the tuned PM filter). PB also transposes the tuned PM filter up an octave.

I pre-ordered this. I don't actually have Icarus yet, it's my next synth :D
Judging by the KVR rankings it looks like it's somehow Tone2's most overlooked synth, but to me seems like it's their most interesting.

The quality of the resynthesis in Icarus is outstanding for sure. The Matrix could need some more slots but overall it's a very capable, good sounding instrument.

I had a go at re-creating the setup of the latest patch you posted. But I ran out of time in the demo before getting half way :D definitely looking forward to using it properly.

For the matrix limited to 18 slots, I guess it's the creative decisions that went into making the instrument, and during development the types of patches they were making didn't require more. It's easy to want to keep adding features to a synth, but then Icarus could've unded up being more like Avenger or Falcon :hihi:

We can always split the patch into multiple parts when hitting a limitation and layer in our DAW (with Layer or Patcher in FL) - but not the greatest solution when making a soundsets. Or alternatively re-create in Avenger after doing the resynthesis in Icarus (again, not great for an Icarus soundset!).

Looking forward to playing with the soundset, seems like you've been quite inspired to make it! The Wavetables in Icarus seem to not include any organic or acoustic sounds, so your soundset will likely help re-balance that.

Post

If setting up certain modulation types wasn't so convoluted in Icarus, 18 matrix slots would suffice because we also have the hardwired modulators. But I'm not complaining.

I have just released my first sound library for Icarus:

Image

Elevation for Icarus offers a wealth of evolving and organic sounds derived from many different acoustic and electronic sources. Dozens of samples were especially prepared to make the best of the re-synthesis algorithms in Icarus, vocal tones and phrases, speech, woodwinds, brass instruments, bells, percussion instruments, strings and electronic sounds were used as audio sources, the resulting wavetables were further processed and edited in Icarus. Some patches have been created entirely inside the onboard wavetable editor. From lush pads and elevating soundscapes to dark and massive drones, haunting atmospheres, beautiful textures, pristine plucks and complex sequencers, this sound library will elevate your music.

All patches have the modulation wheel assigned which often introduces rhythmical, tempo-synced modulations and/or interesting animation of morph, filter, amplitude and FX, a lot of presets also use aftertouch and velocity as modulation sources.

You can view/download the PDF for this library with more details, the licence agreement and the patchlist including descriptions for each patch here.

Specs:
  • *102 patches.
    *200+ original wavetables embedded in the presets.
    *All patches have the modulation wheel assigned, many also use aftertouch and velocity to expressively shape the sound.
    *Library size: 136.2 MB installed.
    *Delivery: download.
    *Price: € 33 EUR.
Patch categories:
  • * Arp - Sequencer (12)
    * Drones - Soundscapes (36)
    * Instruments - Synths (20)

All demos below were produced entirely with Icarus using only patches from Elevation, no post-processing was applied apart from a limiter on the outputs and some volume automation, if several instances of Icarus were used in a track.
