Did you do an OS reinstall after the CPU/mobo upgrade?Your machine will act flaky unless you do(and we're talking a reformat/reinstall here).

i did reinstall os... but i did in manner that was "supposed" to save all my information.. now it is all there but its not accessible...

The whole problem with doing a reinstall like that is that it seems not all the file paths and system info get overwritten.Plus, you still have to reinstall most of your programs.Keep a slop disk in your machine(I have an 80 Gb for this)that you can copy folders to before reinstalling or reformatting. Then, after you've reinstalled everything, just move what's on the slop drive to where it's supposed to be.
I also keep only my OS and things that won't install anywhere else on my system drive. That way,if I do have to do an emergency reinstall,my data's on another drive.

I would say a clean format and reinstall is in order here. I have a feeling that *any* sequencer would have trouble in this situation. I suggest that you burn your critical data to CD or copy it to a 2nd hard drive and format/reinstall...

all of this is very good useful information but one of those things that i have learned to late... i now would like to get an external hard drive for backup... lesson learned that is for sure...

Post

no worries, we were all there at one point or another. :)

so basically wipe my hard drive, reinstall os again, and go from there???

and copy and burn my files that i might need on a cd???
