Multitimbral?
Wow - I haven't thought about a plugin needing to be multitimbral in like... 15 years or longer? Can't we just create as many instances of a plugin that we need and combine them in your DAW? I know Reason, Bitwig, and most other DAW offer this sort of feature. :party:
I also dont understand the need of multitimbral plugin in a software world.

I dont even use Kontakt multiple outs...its much more convinient to open a new plugin :)
Well, in the case of Dune it makes sense to me. Sometimes I play with multiple layers and have the desire for more control over the sequence and the sound of each layer.
Multitimbral synths are useful too when you want to have only one instance of the plugin at sight and make multiple tracks with it. I find it useful and comfortable sometimes.
I have a feeling its related more of being used to older workflow, especialy this might come from hardware synth days with multitimbrality where you would control everything from one synth.

I love the fact that there are different layers in Dune, but multitimbrality is something i cant imagine ever using myself.

Multitimbrality is essential for pads. For instance can have bell sound on attack, warm low end, sustained supersaw for harmony, a layer of noise or a texture plus a one-time events sequenced by MSEGs. Each of these with individual velocity / note sensitivity.

That's blurring the lines between composition, orchestration and sound design. In general, you may just use different midi tracks, or route 1 midi track to several synths or use modular environment to make complex layered patches.

I see. Well, I wouldn't count on it showing up any time soon. This sort of feature is so outside of what's normal in plugins these days, I just don't see Richard and Co. taking the time and code to implement it.

What DAW do you work inside?
Win 10 | Ableton Live 11 Suite | Reason 13 | i7 3770 @ 3.5 Ghz | 16 GB RAM | RME Babyface Pro| Akai MPC Live 3 & Akai Force | Roland System 8 | Roland TB-3 | Roland MX-1 | Dreadbox Typhon | Korg Minilogue XD

It's not essential at all (for anything), because combining as many instances of any plugin has been able to accomplish exactly this for... years? Just say'n... :party:

Dune 2 also offers ability to combine modulation for them (like, target voice 1, 3 and 5 in modulation matrix). Many stock presets actually use multitimbrality just as described. In fact I find Dune 2 presets the best from all synths.

True multitimbrality allows a synth to load multiple presets at the same time, and neither Dune 2 (nor its predecessor) allows that at all.

But I agree being able to modulate is awesome, and I also agree Dune 2 has some of the most awesome presets in the industry. Richard and Co. really knock it out of the park with those. Looking forward to Dune 3 finally seeing the light of day! :party:

In order from more to less used Live, Bitwig, Reason and Studio One. NSA Freestyle as plugin subhost.

It is not that I am used to or want multitambrility so much, in the case of Dune I thought that the feature could make sense. Dune is so versatile that I can Imagine a Drumkit, complex layered pads or a entire series of tracks made just with it, but I don´t have a problem with using multiple instances at all.

Actually, this is exactly the sort of thing VPS Avenger does, so I get it. :tu:

My hope about Dune3:

* Mpe with user curves.
* comb filter with feedback and keytracking
* full fm cross modulation between all voices/ engines
* more mseg's
* more filters, analog and more exotic styles
* innovative wavetable editor and creator
* more fx slot with a mixer per layer routing
* drag and drop modulation assign or another system.
* phase distortion, wave shaping possibility
* midi channels per layers.
Best

My hope is:

* there will be still support for Dune 2 and its gui will be scalable
