Hi, hope someone can help me recover my song or understand why it crashes. I've been working on a piece for a couple of days, Cubase SX2.2 on XP, 1Gb RAM, 2.66GHz PC. I've built up 8 versions and finally with 3 instances of Moog Modular V2 and 2 of Mtron it suddenly stopped playing. Ok, I thought, I'll restart and freeze some tracks. No dice. Ok, restart again and take out one of the instances of MMV2. Did that, still won't play. Restart again, try to freeze this now "reduced" track, gets to 5% freeze and stops.
Ok, I'll go back to an earlier version, they obviously played. er, no, same thing.
I've restarted the machine several times gone back to version 5, still won't work or let me freeze a track. Any ideas? I've got an error log, not sure it helps
" Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION
Fault address: 0A18D5AB 01:0009C5AB C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplugins\Moog Modular V 2.dll"

Help anyone?

HI

I think you are suffering one of those quirky problems that happen on many host's and in my opinion you might want to consider salvaging the midi parts and starting again with the basis of the composition as a midi-file.

It looks like some kind of conflict or bug with "Moog Modular V 2.dll" - but who is likely to sort that out?

It sounds like you have not added Audio so salvage the track as an 'export midi-file' and re-start the pproject, you could try the same combination of plug-ins again to see if they are a problem - you might be lucky and not run into it again, but do restart from the salvaged midi-file - imported into a new project.

Yes, the MMV tried to touch 'something' that it shouldn't, and puked. I'd actually report it as a bug.

Hi Flipper, thanks for the speedy response. Actually the musical content was fairly minimal, I was working on a pastiche and most of the work was in the automation and effects settings. I guess what I get back with the midi file is just the basic notes as it were. I found version4 was stable and I think I'll need to try and build cautiously from there, but it helps to know that its "just one of those things". Maybe freezing as I go along will help? I'll try anyway!

HI

Maybe all that automation mayhem got it's knickers in a twist!

No, you should be able to have (in theory) masses of automation going - some of these things are just elusive, I remember someone stating that computers sometimes just forget what the f**k they are doing and lock-up  !
