Some of the recommendations are just laughable
That Yooz music thingie ...is an utter joke .
Image line bassline , while not bad ...fails miserably when accent is applied , the resonance sounds off to .
Serious , abl 3 is currently the best emuulation , those that say otherwise have never heard a real 303 in person .
Abl3 all the way

I don't record. Was it -C1 or -C2 that played the pattern 1, then when I want to change pattern -> -C#1 etc etc.. Plugin state and stuff are saved with the project.

I do my patterns - for both Phoscyon VST and ALB3 RE - in DAW's sequencer. I've much more control (and freedom) that way.

seems a bit hostile.

anyway..."best" is both subjective and relative. abl3 may very well may be the most accurate emulation, but some people value other things above just pure accuracy. i stand by my statement that phoscyon is more interesting and more versatile.

if you were to do a straight 303 bass line with the two, no one would really be able to tell the dif. in a blind test as to which one was which. they are both accurate enough to do that job, but when stepping beyond just trying to clone the sound of a real 303...phoscyon starts to pull away, drastically in my opinion.

so sure...abl3 sounds (pretty much) just like a real 303. but really so does phoscyon....and then it also sounds like a 303 plus some other cool stuff no one would ever be able to pinpoint. makes for more interesting music that stands out, without people even knowing why it stands out.

phoscyon is like a 303 with some spice you can add to it....but only if you want that spice. abl3...no spice.

also i dont think its quite fair to include the yooz one...its a free plug made for the dev challenge. im not partial to the image line one either, but...if you have that already...theres no real reason to buy something else...its serviceable.

and fwiw....i have heard a real 303 in person. like a lot.

I own both and both are excellent. But personally I like ABL3 more. A big step up from ABL2. And the new random pattern generator is really fun, and creates interesting ideas more often than not.

This is dope and makes arranging stuff much easier! Thanks for the tip :tu: :phones:

edit* just thought I would put some tips in for any future newbs who are trying to get this thing to work on a Bitwig/any DAW I assume. Feel free to add tips or correct me if I'm wrong. Couldn't get the notes to trigger the different banks but once I disabled pattern lock, the notes were able to trigger the pattern banks. BTW it's -C2 for bank 0, C2# for bank 1, and so on (thank Distorted Horizon for the tip). Make sure host sync is on, and note mode is off, if you want to use notes to trigger the banks; the notes should be sustained for the whole period you want the bank to play. Make sure pattern lock is off, or it won't switch between banks.

Another thing that sort of threw me off was trying to figure out how to get the knob settings to save from one pattern to another, but sat on it for a minute and little light bulb came on. Automation. Just hit record and start fiddling with cutoff/tuning/etc... settings and it'll save.

Just thought I would put some tips incase any future users were scratching their head on this. Maybe I'm the only one scratching my head

I just added that because it was free, for those who cant or don't want to buy either
ABL3 or Phoscyon. It's not bad, of course it's not competition for either. :smack:

I like the D16 version myself, never had a real interest in the Audiorealism plugin.
Never seemed to warrant nearly half again as much coin over the D16 version to me.
Of course I am not a 303 connoisseur either.

If you want a free plugin the Venom 303 is a good choice too.

I feel like all this arguing about which one is The Best™️ is more or less moot now because he already bought a plugin. I think all our time would be much better spent, now, helping him get the most out of his purchase.

I didn't mean to be hostile .
But there are emulations and there are emulations like abl3 where there has been an intricate amount of attention to detail , not found in other emus
Simple example , an accented trigger with accent amount to 0 and envelope/decay to full will sound different (duller and shorter ) to a non accented trigger , iow the accent amount still has a slight influence when set to zero , just like a real 303
This is what set abl3 apart from the rest .

I'm really annoyed that swing was removed from V2 and has never been added to V3. I bought it expecting it to show up eventually, but it's been so many years I've given up. How can it be so difficult to add swing when the previous one already had it?

Anyone that has ABL3, have you guys had problems with clicking noises? Turned off VCA clicks and noise but still get weird clicks despite the step being off. The clicks only appear, or at least are audible, when theres several gates that are off next to each other. Odd thing is that this has not happened until today when I open the project I was working on.

Sounds weird, is VCO Phase Reset activated? What's the GATE TRIM set to ?

I tried everything but nothing removed the click. As previously mentioned, I read that this issue was fixed, and the problem just came up out of nowhere so it didn't make sense. And from my understanding, the clicks were at the end of the steps when it jumped back to step 1, not on the other steps, so wasn't 100% convinced it was the vst. I decided to reinstall vst and moved all my tracks to a new project and that fixed it. I deleted the old file but now I'm thinking I should have kept it to see if it was the vst or DAW causing the clicks :dog: As of now, it's click free :phones:
