Hi guys

What are your opinion on Diversion? I see it on sale at the moment. How is its sound and what does it compare to?
Are there any free presets available?

Thank you for your input!

Post

clean, tight, stunning, crystalline, focussed, juicy... [moist?]... SLICK!!! pretty f**king smashing.

compares a bit to Thorn obviously, maybe aspects of it can be found in several synths, but it's just one of those synths that you literally don't need anything else, but a DAW. Unfortunately it dropped at a time when my CPU was lacking, and i think i ended up using nothing but Spire for a good year or so... which has some similar qualities i guess, snappy [plucky?] envelopes etc...

Both the Dmitry Sches synths are divine for plucks and leads, simply stunning. He codes great effects too.
For $49, it's amazing value.
My intuition tells me that v2 will take it to the next next.

Awesome thank you for your reply! How does it do with bass? There was a collaboration done to make free presets but I can seem to find it

In a few words : Diversion sounds sooooooo good, better than most synths you've ever seen. But the CPU usage is crazy high for what it does. At this price you should buy it without any hesitation, I've purchased it a week ago. Diversion 2 is supposed to come out soon, an upgrade path is likely to exist.

One of the best.

One of the best sounding softsynths imo. Quite CPU hungry but the sound totally justifies it. Very flexible digital oscillators, juicy analogue-modelled filters and great effects, and you can do many tweaks on the oscillator level, animate everything with LFOs and MSEGs, so it's really a sound-designers dream.

IMO, it would be stupid not to buy it for 49 bucks.

Free presets may be found here

Collaboration bank and the bank by Pavel Vakhrushev are really very good.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Thank you for the insightfull replies guyz!!

I'll repeat the other's opinion. Sounds good. Takes a LOT of CPU. :)

Question is if it isn't worth to wait for Diversion 2, which should drop in the near future. Although i bet that Dmitry has a upgrade option for Diversion 1 users. Still...

So, is Diversion really Thorn's big brother or is that actually a totally different synth?

ie, if you have Diversion, you won't need Thorn (except maybe for CPU reasons)

For me, they are two very different synths.. that each, seem to focus on certain things.. more than the other.

Thorn is sorta plucky and rhythmic, while Diversion has more of a fat/analog quality.

They definitely sound different. Other filters, and Diversion also doesn't suffer from the muffled low end in Thorn. Diversion is also crystal clear in the highs. Comes with a price though. I can't play big unison pads on Diversion on my computer. Crackles with a couple of notes and one plugin instance.

I'm sure Dmitry works on the CPU usage for Diversion 2.

Can someone tell me where to put the bonus preset banks? I can use the Load button but I have to do that each time to load a preset rather than scroll through them like the factory presets :/

What are your cpu specs Chk?

I have this thing: https://ark.intel.com/de/products/75054 ... -3-30-GHz-

Granted, old CPU. It can run other stuff just fine though. Diversion is definitely my most "expensive" soft synth, alongside Monark, which "fortunately" is mono though, so, not too much CPU consumption with any patch. :)

PC or Mac?

On Mac, the folder is /Library/Application Support/Diversion/Library/Synth Presets

On PC, I don't know but if you hit save, it should take you to the Synth Presets folder and hopefully the dialogue box lets you see where that is (but it's probably Something/Something/Diversion/Library/Synth Presets).
