I agree! Super easy to use as well, compared to... well, lots of other synths. :)

And looks like a million bucks - much, much better than many costlier synths, both more modern and better UI.

And I got my reply from Everett just minutes after PM-ing him. What a terrific support!

:borg: Version 2.21 is now Released with Microtuning .

See the new Microtuning section of the User Manual.

Both Scala.SCL and AnaMark.TUN format profiles are parsed, as well as simple Drag and Drop of the tuning files into the main view. Both per preset and global modes are provided.

:tu: Sparky, Thanks for the feedback, that's good to hear.

I'm also happy to hear your reaction to the GUI.

Hey Everett, top work. There's a few bugs in the microtuning, I have had it all working and lining up with all my other synths momentarily but changing presets (which is hard in itself because the preset folder is whatever the last folder the browser was in, so if you change the tuning you have to relocate the presets) can produce odd results (or revert to 12TET), regardless of if the microtuning global parameter is enabled. I'll continue to experiment and try to create reproducible bug reports soon. Something isn't following the microtuning correctly, can't quite work it out yet, some notes on some presets are way out. There's certainly something going on with the root note, I can get it to line up with everything else if I transpose them down but I'm struggling to do it the other way (to change the root note in Fathom to make it in tune with them).

It'd be handy to have the tuning filename in the GUI somewhere, that would make it easier to diagnose what's happening too.

Thanks for all your efforts.

I tested that pretty carefully. If you load a tuning file and have the global box set it should keep the same tuning regardless of which presets are loaded on that track.

I think you still have to load the same tuning file though on every track, it won't communicate the same tuning from one track to another.

Maybe post the exact steps and upload the tuning file and I'll try to recreate it.

I am feeling somewhat confused as to how aftertouch works. I am looking for a little help, please.

1. Is there a difference between aftertouch and channel pressure?

2. If I hit a key very softly aftertouch seems to have no effect until a reach a certain threshold, what is this threshold?

3. If I hit a key very hard, then back off the pressure a little, there seems to be no aftertouch until I get down to a low enough pressure for it to start working. Is this the same threshold as in question 2?

4. What midi channel is aftertouch data on?

5. If the velocity is thought of as an initial pressure value, then what is the aftertouches range in comparison to this?

Sorry for so many questions, if you are able to answer even just one of them it would be a great help to me. Thanks, Jason

Yes, there's a difference. True after-touch is per key. Channel pressure is pressure from the entire keyboard. Unless you have a very expensive midi controller keyboard you probably have channel pressure.

Fathom does not employ any thresholds on any signal from the host, regardless of what it is.

To Fathom, both after-touch and channel-pressure are simply signals from the host and they are not treated differently than anything else.

If half your signal is being ignored it could be you have the modulation set to bipolar or something like that. Or the issue could be a combination of the dial range and the modulation type, for instance a multiply modulation on a bipolar dial will not go through both positive and negative, etc.

However, there's an easy way to test this.

We will take advantage of the fact that Wave Table page parameters update the graph in real time, so here's what you do.

Add a wave table oscillator.
Add a modulation to the left side Wave Index.
In the mod slat select Note and Keyboard Channel Pressure.
Put the Wave Index on Zero and turn the Modulation Amount up to max.
Then loop on a simple midi sequence in the host.
In Fathom make sure the Wave Table unit is selected so the 3D graph is showing.
Find the host channel pressure signal and move it up and down.
You should see Fathom's wave graph move up and down.
This will tell you if any ranges in the signal are being ignored.
Then try the physical keyboard channel pressure manually.
And see if Fathom's waveform changes accordingly.

If not let me know.

Once again, working and looking well in linux with
recent wine/reaper. The new sounds are a nice bonus :hyper:
As are the sundry educational post contents.

Hi,
I just picked this up for $15. I haven't even installed it yet - but should I be expecting an email with a serial number? (or authorisation number, or whatever?)

The confirmation email should have a serial number in it which functions as the upgrade password.

However, the original purchase download does not require the unzip password.

Hi FathomSynth,

I can get in to the zip file - so that is OK.
In case there is an upgrade - I don't have any serial number. I only have
- an email with the download link (no serial number)
- another email with the order number, order summary etc - but no serieal number.

Should I email you? Or is it OK to talk about it here? ;-)
