Fabfilter equivalents/near equivalents?

Sure, there are no non-linearities to worry about but there are subtle differences in phase shift, filter shape, quality, precision and so on.

Have you any kind of empirical proof for this?

I gave Pro C2 another go, and it is a big step up from Pro C v1 - just get the fabfilter compressor! - I have to retract what I said about HoRNet Multicomp though good, its nothing on Pro C2.

I use Cubase9.5 as my DAW and the comps in that are almost as good as ProC2 though.

pro-q 2 = craveeq, tb-equalizer4
pro-mb = tb-equalizer4, tdr nova (HEAVYYY on cpu)
pro-l 2 = ozone 8 limiter
pro-c 2 = idk, dmg trackcomp? never use dmg plugins

Some nice alternatives are Blue Cat Audio plugins or Voxengo plugins, but FabFilter are probably the best quality/best interface option you can get.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I have a plan and direction to go in, which will probably involve saving up over time for the Fabfilter plug-ins and making do with some of your suggestions for the time being. Thanks also for not "dumb noob"ing me on any of the responses. I fully recognize quality requires investiture - I'm not cheap, just not flush at the moment.

Sweetwater sells the Fabfilter line too and I can do three split payments with a small surcharge, so that may be a good route as well.

Hey if you dont mind synchrony you can get their sweetwater credit line. No interest or fees and you get 24 months to pay it off. Just careful if you pay it all off and dont buy anything else cus synchrony likes to close 0 bal credit lines after a couple months. Real rude dudes.
