I wandered over by the website because I needed to reinstall z3ta+2, and it looked like everything is still up and running (Cakewalk, Rapture, etc). Supposedly, Bandlab is doing quite well in Asia with their online collaboration service

IIRC the original press release said that Bandlab bought all of Cakewalk's intellectual property. Meng has stated some of his intentions on forum.cakewalk.com and the SONAR forum there is probably the best place to look for news regarding those products.

Ah. Interesting! I'd thought that they only had Sonar and its integrated effects. I know lots of people were wanting the Pro Channel effects and chains to be available again.

This may bee too late even for Gibson, in the short term (5 years), anyway. Loosing quality, loosing markets. I don't get how they let this go on so long.

I just checked. The Pro Channel stuff is still there. I looked at My Products though, and I can’t see that they have updated my z3ta+2 since 2016. All of their plugins are still for sale (I think I saw Rapture Pro on special over the summer even), and they are still supported but, I don’t know how much interest Bandlab has in keeping them up to date. We’ll see how it goes.

Cakewalk by Bandlab is working excellently for me. i think more Cakewalk products are supposed to become available later. what i'm more interested in now, regarding Gibson, is what happens with the Tronical (the company that provided Gibson with robot tuners) situation, as there has been a big lawsuit & counter lawsuit between the 2 companies

That’s a very interesting question. I know Juszkiewicz was REALLY behind the Robo-tuners. I never really “got them”...not that I ever tried them. I haven’t owned a Gibson guitar since 2010 when my LP Studio was stolen. I bought a couple of Mexican Teles (cheaper...sounded pretty good), and I like open tunings. Robo-tuners were always on the more expensive models. How did you feel about them? I never heard about the lawsuit either. Was it for unpaid bills, or something else?

Gibson has a long history of breaking contracts and always trying to fool partners. Just google about the history behind the development of Oberheim Ob-MX for a good example on this.

Not to mention burying companies after buying them, as they did with Steinberger and Opcode.

This hopefully all changes with the new CEO. I'm fond of Gibson Guitars, owning three, all of them from the 60's and 70's though, before the CEO who Buried OpCode etc.

I heard stories about how impossible it was to work with him...

Now that he's been made to walk the plank,they have put their new crew in place,but that statement they made was just the usual corporate BS fluff that happens when new faces are appointed...

I wish them well,but it is going to be a very big task....

Guitars are cool...

I love them,but I also grew up when the world was a little different...

We could practice 6-8 hours a day and follow our dreams...

The music industry has changed immeasurably and the social situation has changed a lot as well...

Most kids don't want to spend time practicing an instrument now...

They would rather be playing with their phones or their tablets...

Their time is spent in pursuit of different dreams than their parents...

That stream of development from student to professional is also reflected in the price point of the instruments that are adopted...

So a high ticket Gibson guitar has a limited market these days...

I'm pleased that Henry da Vandal has been removed from the driving seat,but not every problem that Gibson faced was a result of his lack of true vision...

The digital revolution has caused immense social disruption and upheavel,challenging many of our established social norms and it's being sucessful on this level that will ultimately decide the fate of Gibson...

Do they have products and services that meet this demand ?

Time will tell I guess...

But what would I really know ?

In the meantime,the new Cakewalk DAW is working just fine
