Reaper can replicate Fl's functionality(if you modify the default settings) and has much stuff not possible in FL(see also their forum for scripts).

Reaper and Studio One. Best part about both of them is you can snap your notes to scales.
Also if you're looking for just quickness then Waveform9 because it has a pattern generator that will put in chords, melodys, arps, basslines ect for you with a ton of ways to modify it from there.

Funny, for me it´s the only DAW where I got this feeling more or less...ruslan.st wrote: Wed Oct 24, 2018 8:00 pm Reaper doesn't have that FL piano roll "feel", GUI responsiveness and smoothness. But functionally it is great.
Different people different taste...
While S1 does it only halfway ...SoundPorn wrote: Wed Oct 24, 2018 7:29 pm ...Best part about both of them is you can snap your notes to scales.
S1 does not snap i.e. chord notes (ergo multiple notes above each other) to scale if you select the notes and shift them up or down with the arrow keys... only to bottom one snaps, but the upper ones don´t...
Reaper does the trick completely ... no matter, what you are moving, everything snaps correctly into scale...

The magic word here is "mouse modifier" ...K82 wrote: Wed Oct 24, 2018 6:57 pm Could you provide a link please ? About how to replicate fl behaviour ?
With mouse modifiers you can basicaly tell Reaper, what the mouse shall do in nearly every aspect of the whole program
Go to Kenny Gioa´s youtube channel:
and watch the videos about the Mouse Modifiers... one of the most powerful feature in Reaper...

It´s not easy to describe... you have to work with it to understand... it´s the entity of this whole thing... how it feels, how well everything is layed out and work together, the tools available... it just feels being at home...
In one point nearly everybody will tell you the same:
Once you got used to this PR editor, understand it and really know how to use it, you´ll have hard times to work with something else...

In terms of the PR editor save your time and check out only Reaper in depth... it´s the only one, which (after the necessary customisation) comes quite close in my eyes...Caine123 wrote: Wed Oct 24, 2018 7:44 pm sounds great so far! i am peeping @Reaper, Studio One and Ableton.
Regarding the PR Editor from this 3 choices Ableton got the worst... it´s functional... but that´s it... not a pleasure to use and by far no FL replacement

How stable is reaper overall? And cpu efficient?

I like the FLS piano roll. It has an elastic and responsive quality to it that is not clunky. I'll be honest though, I don't use it for other reasons. I haven't made music in years but have just started up again. Since my needs have changed and I wanted something different, I have just bought Mixcraft 8 at a heavily reduced price from their site. I have to tell you, so far it's really pretty sweet. I've used so many hosts over the years, but Mixcraft has come a really long way in version 8. Early days, but so far the MI(DI editing in it has some elasticity int he same way that FLS does. I wasn't expecting much in this area from it, but I have been pleasantly surprised by it. Doesn't have all of the same tools, but it's easy enough to use and a lot less clunky than Live, for example!
