i use o-plat on pc. my nephew is greatly interested in the whole thing and has messed with garage band on mac. he feels limited....could be a light version he's playing with. anyways, is there a host that works on a mac that is similar to orion? specifically with a use-friendly piano roll. as opposed to the piano roll in protools, which i don't like.
i'd rather have a mullet than a comb-over.
fortunately, i have neither.

Hmmm... Probably the best thing would be Reason 2.5 as far as similarity to Orion... I have Orion Plat. which I have on my PC, but I mostly use my Mac these days... So I'm going back and forth between Live 4.0 Logic Pro, and Reason... I have to say, Live is nothing like Orion, Logic is pretty complex (almost too much) which leaves Reason... although it has a Piano Roll, and a similar sequencer, probably Orion's best feature is the way it focuses on a looping piano roll, which you can add and delete notes while it plays...easy to work with the mouse! But, Reason is pretty slick, just not as quick as Orion, and probably requires more learning curve... Tracktion... more of ann audio app, not to good with midi... IMHO!

I would check out Tracktion from http://www.tracktion.com/ - also check out their user group here at KVR. Great value for money, supports all the necessary standards, and if your nephew keeps his Garageband he can use both. I use 3 different sequencers/hosts (FL Studio - PC, Ableton Live - PC/Mac, Tracktion - PC/Mac) plus Reason - PC/Mac, and Soundtrack - Mac, and I find that they all have different strengths and are suited for different kinds of production techniques. Some of these can be rewired into each other for endless possibilities...
