Any iZotope Nectar 2 users here? Is $149 USD a decent deal (for Production Suite)?

I just saw that I can "crossgrade" to Nectar 2 Production Suite (and get Nectar 3 Production Suite included) for just $149 USD. Any users out there that can chime in? Do you like Nectar? Is it really worth it for someone who works with vocals a lot? Are you looking forward to version 3?

Thanks

Meh, I bit the bullet and picked it up for $149 USD. Seemed like a decent deal, and since version 3 comes free with it in a couple of weeks, I figured I'd give it a try. Kind of surprised there's no Nektar users here. Doesn't anyone record vocals here at KVR??!!

:o

So... over 100 views and no one here is a vocalist that.. records vocals? Absolutely zero interest in Nectar?

I can't imagine that KVR is just beatmakers and EDM producers that don't record vocals. Come on, peeps! :o :P

I have it but dont use it much. I dont know why really but it just does not produce anything very exciting. The harmony stuff I use now and again but the parts to it can be achieved better with other tools. The new Nectar 3 though does seem to raise the bar a bit with more of the 'AI' type analysis they have employed in Netron and Ozone

Nah, I'm not letting ML tell me what sounds good. Besides - I didn't know one can't get a vocal recording done without it. :D

Indeed. I bought it, and really the only bit which I still ever use is the harmonizer/multitracker part.

Thanks peeps. I just picked up version 2 since that gets me version 3 for free, and I’m not finding a lot inside of version 2 that blows me away. I mean, it’s good and all, but most of what it does I can accomplish already in my DAW with stock plugins and DAW features.

What interests me is the “A.I.” Assistant feature coming in version 3, as I love the Assistants in Neutron 2 and Ozone 8. I’m all about saving time during all phases of production, and I find the Assistants usually get me more than half of the way there to a sound I like.

I like v2 and am looking forward to v3, especially the assistant. As mentioned earlier the presets are pretty cool. They give me a fast way to try out different styles I wouldn't have tried otherwise. You could probably put together your own channel strips with individual plugins of slightly higher quality but what's in Nectar is pretty good.

Does anyone know if v3 will link in to Neutron and Ozone?

I use it on most tracks that I record vocals. I used to use some waves such as Kramer, etc, but I like izotope better. Doubt I will upgrade till a later sale.

Yeah, this is sort of dumbfounding - since iZotope totally pushed inter-plugin communication between Neutron 2 and Ozone 8, I just assumed that the inter-plugin communication would work with Nectar 3 via Neutron 2's Mix Taps channel strip...

...but Nectar 3 apparently uses Relay for its channel strip, which - correct me if I'm wrong - currently only comes with Insight 2 right now. Relay seems to be identical to Mix Tap in channel strip features though (gain, width, mono/phase, a high pass/low pass filter), so I don't understand the logic behind calling it a different thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Turns out inter-plugin communication works with Neutron 2 Advanced (which I also have). Sweet!

I mix vocals a lot and cant really see anything Nectar offers that my other plugins dont.
I mean you breakdown what it is...
compressors, delay, chorus, flanger, reverb, de-esser, eq and then you have masking, harmony generator and melodyne essential.
So the last 3 are really what you're paying for and are they really necessary?
Maybe if you dont own a Melodyne and you dont know how to sing harmonies, if that's the case I would advise getting melodyne editor so you can arrange better and bounce them as individual tracks.

Not exactly. I have all of those plugins and an established workflow in my DAW as well, but what Nectar 3 brings is something completely different: Machine learning. 1. The Assistants save you a metric shit ton of time building your own channel strip effects chains, and start you off with a great starting point. 2. Inter-plugin communication. This is especially useful if you are already in iZotope's ecosystem via Neutron 2, for example, but even without that, it will communicate with Relay instances and adjust other instruments in your mix to unmask your vocal track if it's being drowned out by other tracks.

It really just boils down to efficiency. If you value time and want to get fast results quick that sound great, Nectar 3 is a good alternative.

But that's cool - some people love their current workflow so much that it's not worth the price of admission. I totally understand that.
