What are the ways? Seriously? I love music, I specifically like producing my own music, mixing it, and putting out albums, or producing my original songs for other singers to sing.

What I lack is, marketing, connections, friends who got popular, ways to actually make money.

Like, does anybody currently make money, could please tell me how to turn this into a income?

Like, I research some guy, he created his own production company in japan, and his vocalist he produces for is in various anime OPs now, he must be loaded from broadcast revenue and stuff...

What are the steps, what do I need to do? I feel like my music is on a level of making money with...

Are any of you making any money? This software/hardware and training is expensive, we gotto make money some how.

The only way I know right now is BAND CAMP and listing on itunes with one of the various online publishers

But theres gotto be more ways to make money, sigh I love this hobby but I spend so much time working to support it lol

Tough gig but doable.

You love it.........best assett to have.

Network through songwriter and probucer forums. Be prepared to help others and share ypurself not simply push your stuff.

If you have something complete ......use a distributor like cd bady or something like it.Low cost to make your tunes available for licensing.

Network through soundcloud. follow and get followed.

Maintain social network presence.........all the bs that goes with that.

Really.....It about 5% creation and 95% persistant marketing.
We jumped the fence because it was a fence not be cause the grass was greener.

Wrong question imho.

Some people have talent for making music, others have marketing & business skills. Combination of both is rare...

Play gigs is one approach.

How do I make money with my songs?
You don't. The industry here is turned upside-down - you make money from making other people's music. As a mastering engineer, soundman, preset designer or music teacher, to name a few. This industry is sponsored by wannabe musicans.

Of course you can have a lot of luck and become a superstar overnight, but there are millions of other people playing this lottery.

There are a lot of ways to go about marketing your music, but you're extremely unlikely to turn that beloved hobby of yours into a stable source of income unless you advertise yourself actively - something I've come to find out in the past 5 years of my own music making misadventures. I used to run short online ad campaigns (whenever I could afford to do so) alongside word-of-mouth promotion, and even then, the recognition I gained through those efforts was mediocre at best. Why? Because I wasn't as active with my marketing as I should have.

If you really want to sell your music without being attached to a label, don't make the same mistake I did.

write the name of the song on a t-shirt and sell it

Post

market it as "rapture ready" music
those guys are gullible and throw money at anything
flat earth songs will also yield results in the positive.

What a painfully accurate assessment (at least from where I’m watching).

You could consider getting into library music (AudioJungle or Pond5, for instance).

But then, you're making product, not music, as you basically have to follow the trends and see what kind of stuff tends to get licensed.

The people I know who make a living from music do so by having multiple streams of income. They teach lessons, flip gear, play in at least one or two cover bands, do jingles, record and mix other people/bands, have YouTube channels and/or blogs, build guitar pedals, DJ at weddings, run karaoke at bars, etc.

And then they also occasionally find time to write their own songs... :?

If you want to make money from it, you have to stop treating it like a hobby or passion, and start treating it like an actual business. Like any business in the world, there's a lot more to it than just creating products. You need marketing, management, bookkeeping, networking, etc.

As already mentioned, make music for others until you gain some famous friends on that way to help you out.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG
