Singers these days create much simpler and repetitive melodies and constrain themselves to one octave in alot of the pop I hear, compared to a couple of decades ago.

its the same as its always been... its always been easy to produce "crap" music, but its never been easier to bring it to the masses.

Sorry, no - I was just posting a response to your original post.THE INTRANCER wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:48 pm Well, I don't know if you read my follow up to my thinking on all this on page 5 here, as why I make this audial observation..
Now now, there's no need to be derogatory and throw (inaccurate) stereotypes. In the 80's and even early 90's, most of us Yanks were still watching MTV. The only people who watched the "The Price is Right" were old people, and its popularity was waning by the early 80's anyway.THE INTRANCER wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:48 pm In any case, for myself and I'd guess for majority of the UK population, commercial pop music in the 80's and 1990's was different with a TV show like 'Top Of the Pops' which was on almost 52 weeks of the year (whilst you guys in America were busy watching ' The Price is Right').
Well no, that's you looking at current pop music through your old man filter. Of course everything back when you were a lad "was better". To you. That's our own personal truth that you - and admittedly many our age - like to believe. Meanwhile, kids today are listening to current music and loving the ever living shit out of it (and are learning how to make music a lot easier than we ever had it as kids back in the day). Don't be sore!THE INTRANCER wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:48 pm Sure, back in the 80's, there was some questionable acts of music and hum drum drivel which wasn't to my taste, but as least it was different and in a better way than it is now and been for the past 10 years.
Personally, I'm not a fan of Ed Sheran. Even thought the cameo he had on Game of Thrones was laaaaaaaaaaaaaame.. but hey - look at that - younger actors on that series (Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner) thought it was awesome he was on there, and they love his stuff. Who am I to judge? People love different music I think is crap. It doesn't make it crap. I'm not that naive nor narcissistic to think so.THE INTRANCER wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:48 pm Where's this good commercial music you speak of ? I hope it's not Ed -effing Sheran, you relate that to... lol..
Well that's nice and all, but no one cares about what you or me or anyone else likes, or our "abilities" as musicians. Do you think you (or we) are an "authority" on what is good music and what is bad? LMAO!! Come on, man.THE INTRANCER wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:48 pm For myself, the burning desire to create music was right there from the age of 8...with my Casio SK1, whilst my brothers played pop music 16 hours a day almost every day, I taught myself how to play the keyboard...my dad played 5 instruments with the main one being the acoustic 6 string guitar and also the organ I hammered away on from the age of 2. There is definitely something in my DNA that relates to producing music, whist for others, it's been more about listening although saying that, my sister can read music notation whilst playing the piano.
Eh... I know you think it's "wrong", but the fact of the matter is - we all outgrow pop culture's usefulness. Trends change. Music changes. Them's the breaks, man.THE INTRANCER wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:48 pm My own taste in music is pretty wide and diverse growing up, but there is something fundamentally wrong with how music has evolved over the past decade.
I still enjoy listening to classical music that was composed several hundred years ago...

Assorted musings: on a side note, and I know this must really burn a lot of the old timers here - BUT ROCK MUSIC IS DEAD. Like, seriously. Kids these days don't want to go out and buy guitars. They want a new DAW, plugins, and/or electronic hardware. Look at the Top 40 charts - in both the UK and the US (arguably the two largest markets for western culture's "pop music"). It's mostly electronic based. And by electronic, I mean hip hop, R&B, etc. Rock is dead, man. Dead as a f**k'n door-nail.
Also, I didn't know KVR censored language. That's lame. But I guess there are children in the forums, so I guess I can respect that.
