You see that phrase on nearly all threads that ppl have put trax up in. I type it myself all the time.

I was curious if you say that when you pop a CD in ya stereo....

...the latest "enter big band name here" CD playing away and you say "yeah, quite a good album, but what i would do is...."

:hihi:

yeh I did that last night with Robbie Williams new thing on Johnathan Ross.

"what i would do is

erase the f**ker"

yeah, good point. When you buy a CD you accept it for what it is, warts and all. I guess the difference is knowing (to an extent), the artists thru KvR and knowing that it's largely not too late to be tweaked.

I have learnt to take on board the feedback but still try and do things my way (cue Sinatra). I've also noticed that if certain people like a track I've made, then certain others definitely won't like it.

I'm not stalking you by the way...

Usually with a CD i turn it the other way round and say "AAaah, so what I should do is..."

But since I've started writing my own music my enjoyment of 'proper' cd's has been ruined coz i'm always analysing their production/levels of hats/snare/clarity of mix etc...

Post

actually thinking about it i'd like even more feedback on my tracks that i post, as i havent a clue what i'm doing really... Even if I don't agree with what someomne suggests, I'd like to hear how others interpret what I've done 8)

I buy a lot of CDs, and I think it goes one of two ways - either it's shit and doesn't get listened to much, or it's fantastic and I sit in awe trying to work out how they did whatever they did.

I would make bill nelson re-record 'quit dreaming and get on the beam' with better production and mastering

...but sometimes i wonder if we are actually offending ppl with those comments....

i keep expecting someone to say "well its not your track, it mines, and its exactly how i wanted it to sounds, so f**k off..."

but usually folks post stuff with comments like 'all feedback wlecome' ... ' tell me what you think' ... 'does anything need tweaking' etc ...

... i think the 'what i would do' phrase is most times actually trying to NOT offend the artist involved - its a way of depersonalising the 'criticism' - kind of a shorthand for 'well i know its your track and the decisions you make need to be based on your ideas and your skills but if i had made this track and got to this stage these are the things i would still want to change'

well in my case im here to learn,so when someone tells me theyd do it this way or that way, obviously depending on whether the advice is useful to me,will usually accep it as such.
and as so far each track ive ever done is only really a learning process,i may not pdate the actual piece in question but may use the advice in my next piece. 8)
