I forgot what cd I was listening to a few weeks back, and thought to myself 'now I'd do it this way'
but most of time it's like listening and wondering how the f**k they did that!

now, brothers, a great wind is calling to my heart. it calls in the cities, it calls in the hamlets, it's calling you out there in the.. where they keep the shipping pallets. it is time, brothers, and you can feel it in the threads, you can feel it in the.. in the chat rooms, and out in the streets, and out with the doggies that are out in the streets, you can feel it in them too, we gotta face each other now and tomorrow and ask ourselves, what would putte do?

or some shit.

But if someone doesn't want those comments, why bother posting here? Go put it on a CD and wait for the masses to accept it as is.

See the big difference between something like the Cafe and a CD I've bought is that I don't buy stuff I don't like, where as I listen to lots of stuff I don't like in the Cafe. Since we're all peers here, it seems an appropriate place to say, "What I would have done..."

But I've often thought when hearing commercial music "I wish they would have done..." Same thing really, but in those cases no one's asking, no one's listening so I just turn it off.

Cheers,
Steve

Good points. I liked the part about "peers" because that's where a lot of musicians die off, imo. They become these untouchable gods of music that are 'doing it for real' while the rest of us are just lucky to be in their presence or something. Nothing turns me off a person more than that kind of dismissive presumption.

I know a couple of people who completely ignore everything constructive that's offered to them because they feel like they have 'arrived' somewhere. And in the end, it's all such a joke because people can really surprise you with great insight (not just in music). I love it when my own preconceptions about someone get shattered.
