I disagree. Suggesting the statement "rock music is dead", along with the supporting evidence, is "insulting, abusive, or highly critical language" indicates that you are offended or your feelings are hurt. You're taking this personal, and it's silly to do so. Again, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just merely pointing out facts. This is not a personal attack on the music you like. It's not an ad hominem. The statement and evidence presented is quite reasonable.

You know what is dead in the realm of commercial music is musicality, and craft in songwriting. Everything has to follow something already established. Melody is vapid (and for a lot of this dross that's being generous). The use of copy/paste, one bar drum loops is killing musicality. Congratulations. All of those arguments perfectly suit the mindless conformity of the 'music'.

Well, I don't debate music styles have changed. But what you consider musicality and craft in songwriting is different than what kids today consider (as evidenced by the aforementioned pop charts mentioned several times in this thread).

It is being inferred that rock music has evolved into hip hop/electronic - and are thus considered "rock". I'm not obsessed by the top 10 - it's merely an indicator of what the vast majority of pop culture (read: the buying and listening public that make musical genres relevant) is listening to.

I don't know why this is so hard for people to grasp. I'll try it again: for a decade, the vast majority of the music that makes up pop culture (hence, the top 10 songs at any given time) are no longer driven by bands that play guitars/drums in a traditional "rock and roll" band.

It's hip/hop and electronic.

I have no vested interest in this - I couldn't care less. I did say that this would ruffle the old timer's feathers, though...

i said rock music had evolved. there was no inference it had become hip hop or electronic. in fact i even suggested seeking out post-rock which is guitars drums and singers (although predominantly a style that is instrumental)

it is rock music. that is being produced in large numbers. today. so evidently rock lives. maybe not the rock you enjoy. but it's rock.
