Yup, your $700 cables are BS

And Ethan Winer actually tested it:
It's a long video, but it explains what he did to test it and shows quite compellingly that yes, your $700 cable doesn't sound any better than your cable for $10. It also shows that the directional marker that many of these audiophile cables have are utter BS.
Also, you get to see that incredibly lovable old man say "Bullshit" on screen, which I find incredibly satisfying.
Sorry, Audiophiles. If you need a new expensive hobby, I can probably think of something for you.

I won't watch such a long video.
Anyway, with my antenna cable the lack of shielding makes the difference, unfortunately
Some cables also use purer copper than others, but copper without oxygen should be fine.

Easy, start buying audio plugins and sample librariesChris Walton wrote: Sun Nov 11, 2018 8:14 pmSorry, Audiophiles. If you need a new expensive hobby, I can probably think of something for you.
Also the video is BS. Everyone knows you need a $700 USB cable for your interface to retain that analog warmth as the audio enters your computer.

Gawd he looks old... uh... yeah, I remember him from 1980s articles in computer mags... Damn, the years go somewhere, don't they?

I found that it depends on location in the signal chain. I bought expensively-shielded cables from my CD player to Amplifier, where there are strong magnetic fields. I could hear the difference from my cheap cables. I don't think it makes a difference for cables to monitors, though.

Was this a blind test? (Not that a blind test is really needed to identify strong hummimg, but for more subtle degradation I find my brain can play tricks...)Michael L wrote: Mon Nov 12, 2018 6:56 am I found that it depends on location in the signal chain. ^^^No. I was the one connecting and disconnecting cables. My goal was to be able to identify an artifact that appeared and disappeared with shielded/unshielded cables. I did not want to spend the cash ($150/18" Purist Audio Design Elementa), but it made a difference that was worth it. It was just that specific situation -- weak signal into a powerful amp. All my other cables are cheap.

What kind of cable costs $700, though?

A̶u̶d̶o̶p̶h̶i̶l̶e̶ audiophool HDMI cables are the greatest scam of all.
A $1000 HDMI cable
HDMI provides perfect signal reproduction or no signal at all, with nothing in between. Any $10 cable is exactly as good is this one.
