Copy protection - there will be no change for now, but Steinberg reps have publicly said they are working on a new account-based solution:

Although it's not a given that this means that you will definitely be able to run a single license on two computers at once, the planned approach certainly makes this possible. In other words, it will be a matter of policy rather than technical limitation as it is today, which I think is a step in the right direction.

...but it definitely won't be ready in time for C10 (the box includes an elicenser) so would be wonderful to not have 10,000 posts about it in the C10 thread.

Sounds horrible if you run Cubase without being connected to the internet.

I'd rather keep the dongle.

TBH, I always wonder how that is supposed to work. What if you have a gamebreaking bug, and you need to update Cubase? Download the update on another computer, put it on a USB stick, and put it on the offline computer? What about updates for the installed plugins? Seems extremely cumbersome to me..

I know Steinberg are a business, I get that but it’s too early for 10.
They update by 0.5 every year and it's almost always in the past during december.

It looks like it will be a week earlier than last year IIRC.

The last 4 years have moved up progressively it seems. Can't wait to see the docs on this.

I think the basic logic is that last year they decided to make the switch to releasing the new version before Black Friday. I guess they figured that everyone is spent out by the time they launch their shiny new product, so had to make the move. It so happens that this year Black Friday is pretty much a full week earlier than last, so they've had to drag it even further forward accordingly.

It does concern me that 9.5.40 was such a broken release only a few weeks ago, with a hot fix needed to make it useable. Usually the splash screen date of a .0 release is 6-8 weeks before the actual release date, this time I think it will be much closer. Actually I hope it is, if not there's likely to be a lot more initial bugs than normal.

I'd be willing to bet that Steinberg staff have been rather busy over the past few weeks.

If by docs you mean release dates organized, wikipedia got you covered.

By docs I mean, What's New.

Oh yeah, I'm also interested. I was really disappointed with 9.0 as it just had features that were largely useless for me (except mixer undo), but 9.5 was really a gamechanger. I just haven't still upgraded and I thought I'd upgrade soon so I'd get 9.5 meanwhile and get to the good cycle where I have to spend every second year 50€ to stay somewhat dated with Cubase.

Sadly, now it's 170€.

Holy shit. I did google it up but and found the wikipedia article but I still found it confusing. That was pretty good demonstration, on the other hand. I'd love that.

Yes that would be fantastic. I have a half dozen things on my wish list for it. Though I have had a few odd issues in v9.5, I have not had any real show stopping bugs...ok, the daylight savings thing still (infinite scanning), heh.

As usual, not much gets let out of the bag. I expect to see the announcement and availability together on Wednesday.
