Cubase 10?

Well, if someone buys the upgrade at some special offer (like for example the one they ran in the Summer), it would be probably wiser to wait for now to activate the code they got.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 13, 2018 10:47 am Ok. It's been a while since I looked into it. Even more severe then.I don't consider using the grace period as the ordinary practice for buyers.

Whatever floats your boat. I'm just saying that it's not the thing the average buyer does. So, you can't argue on that base.
Saying that you pay 49 € every second year is wrong because it is not true.

I don't know if its ordinary practice or not, but I honestly am very discontent with the pricing practices for updates myself, especially because if one update doesn't bring anything you'd care for, you'd still have to buy it technically speaking in order to get the next one in case it gives you something. I find it more tolerable when the price is 30€ a year rather than the 80€ a year or whatever it averages out as.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 13, 2018 10:47 am Ok. It's been a while since I looked into it. Let's say for example that 10.0 won't bring much else than VariAudio 3. Maybe the price would be justifiable on the grounds of VariAudio 3 and what it brings to the table to people who use it. But what if you don't use VariAudio? Well, it's a 100€ upgrade you're going to have to pay just in case something good comes in future.
I remember being woefully disappointed in what 9.0 brought to the table and paying 100€ for that seemed ludicrous as I would be using nothing that it brought. So I skipped it. Then came in 9.5 and it brought a lot of features I actually wanted. But I still have to pay for the 100€ that 8.5 -> 9.0 would cost.
So rather just jump to grace period train instead. Technically you do get the x.5 updates a year later than you could, but I can live with that, especially because I generally speaking dislike installing newer versions of Cubase with the offchance that I will lose my user preferences to the oblivion as well as my insert presets and instrument presets (which include inserts, not only the instrument itself). Even Windows updates seem to sometimes mess with them.

I don't know about their average customers, I mean probably that's true. But I know that I'm not the only one doing this. There's no real downsides aside from being a year off at every 0.5 update, which shouldn't be a big deal because at this point it's hard to imagine anything as important as mixer undo & VCA's being added into the mix that would be gamechangers.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 13, 2018 10:53 am Whatever floats your boat. @Functional: I agree with you about the pricing, and, that was one of the reasons I switched to S1. Fair enough if you want to make use of discounts, of course.

Technically speaking they are not discounts. I'd honestly be more sympathetic with their pricing model if they would simply move to a model where a new update costs at the very beginning a 100€ and then the price will dramatically drop down to 25€ after 9 months and the grace period could be shortened to just one week. I think it's fair pricing: those that feel like they really need the latest upgrade will grab it as soon as it comes. Those that don't will just wait and stay up to date.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 13, 2018 11:39 am @Functional: I agree with you about the pricing, and, that was one of the reasons I switched to S1. And as much as I'd like to move to another DAW over this pricing scheme, the reason I don't is because I'm too good with Cubase at this point and some of the biggest shortcomings for me were addressed in 9.5. I don't consider it superior to other alternatives (in particular Reaper) but I don't want to spend 2 years to get into the same kind of workflow either
