There is an "exit" bug when I close some projects which stops Cubase from responding, however I believe this could be plugin or sound driver related. I cannot duplicate it normally, and it has been happening randomly for some time (at least since 9.0). On Windows 10. It has never affected work on a project.
There is actually another person with that problem???!!! I thought I was the only one!
I have the exact same problem, since I got my new computer with Windows 10 (never a problem on Win7) earlier this year.
Using windbg I was able to identify several plugins which seem to be involved:
- TDL Slick EQ (GM)
- Toneboosters (all 3.x plugins)
- SGA1566
- Eareckon Transreckon

Only VST2 plugins. I opened calls (several) with Steinberg, send Stack traces and Memory Dumps. They answered "It is related to Direct-X components, maybe they are old. Not our problem"
But of course the Direct-X dlls are part of Windows, and my windows is up to date, even with the latest graphics driver.
I also contacted Jeroen of TB, he was quick to answer but couldn't reproduce the problem.

See my detailed description here: viewtopic.php?f=210&t=514484&p=7219791#p7219791

Have you opened a call at Steinberg? If not, please do so, it might take a long time before they answer, but if more people open calls with that problem, there's a better chance to be taken seriously. Especially as I am not sure it is not a Cubase problem, because tests i did with demo versions of Reaper and Studio One never showed that problem.

Do you have Nvidia card?
Did you try disabling Steinberg power scheme?

I did changed some options and also uninstalling all iLok software and even Reason because of its heavy protection.

I did all the above and Cubase functions without a problem. I don't know which one is the main reason as I did all in one go!

I do have TB plugs but I don't have a problem with them, anyway I'll test that.

Btw, I disabled some options in Nvidia control panel that related to Cubase DirectX. I'll post an image when turning on my PC. You can Google it though and find the configuration posted in Steinberg's forums.

No NVidia card, just stock Intel graphics (up to date drivers). Not sure how the power scheme relates to that. I'd rather not uninstall all iLok because I would lose even more plugins than TB and a few others...

Did you have the same problem? A hang/deadlock after closing a project?

Post

Cubase switching the power scheme when exiting, so that might be a reason. You can disable it inside Cubase but set it from Windows permanently to high performance. It's the same result but without letting Cubase switching it on and off every time you start and quit Cubase.

When I close a project I don't have any problem, neither when quitting Cubase. I have my power scheme set to recommended in Windows and disabled Steinberg scheme.

As I said, I don't know really what was the exact problem before, because I was upset so I uninstalled iLok and also CodeMeter, so I don't know which one was causing the hang/freeze when quitting and CPU instability in Cubase.

Well, I am pretty sure it has to do with unloading VST2 plugins here and, judging from the call stack, some weird Direct-X shit:

Sadly, my debugging skills are nil, and google doesn't bring many results for this.
I fear I have not much left than reinstalling windows. But I'll try the power scheme thing first...

Post

You might already done this, but have you tried to reinstall the latest update then run e-licenser manager and of course maintenance to sync?
