Ok.. I played with the demo.
Honestly, it's a nice DAW, I like the minimal approach, but I don't understand all the hype. Workflow is very similar to Cubase. Maybe some people still using the pirate version of Cubase 5 and don't know any better. :scared:
Again, nice daw, looks clean and fresh, but not so different from Cubase or Logic in my opinion.

Partly, that's because Cubase has been catching up a lot lately (v9, 9.5 & 10) with the workflow of S1, optimising it for single screen, reducing window pop-ups and right-click menus, adding device thumbnails, drag & drop, context-aware tools, etc. Competition is a good thing, just live Live vs. Bitwig!

I personally find S1 more focused & streamlined than Cubase, but that's probably because I'm a hobbyist user and S1 is simply missing a lot of advanced / pro features, so others would probably call it "limited" or "dumbed down" even :)

In fact, I hesitate between Studio Pro 4 and Bitwig.
Well Bitwig Studio is on sale for $100 less right now (so $299 USD instead of $399): https://www.bitwig.com/en/shop/webshop.html

... or you can get Bitwig 8-track for free bundled with a Nektar Impact LX25+ MIDI controller $99.99: https://www.nektartech.com/impact-lx25-plus.html
https://www.amazon.com/Nektar-IMPACT-LX ... 01M0KBF9F/

And you can rent to own Studio One Pro for $16.99/mo for 24 months at Splice: https://splice.com/daws/38650984-studio ... y-presonus

So why not get both? It looks like there are budget friendly options! :D

I bought studio one 4 without really finding out what it can do. I have read the manual and looked for help online, and it seems that it does not have the ability to recall external hardware patches. I have managed to play the external synth and even record the audio output, but is there really no way to make it control midi ?

No sysex ?

Meh... I ended up upgrading my version 3 Professional license to version 4 Professional just a few moments ago. Couldn't say no to 50% off, so my upgrade was barely $75 USD. I doubt I'll still use it more, though.

Hmmm, Likewise I upgraded for not very many dollars BUT...

After installation, (on Mac using Mojave) the installer volume kept popping back onto the desktop when opening the application (mildly annoying). When removed, the SO4 icon in the dock became unknown (weird) and when removed the unknown dock item the program was no longer in my applications folder. Now, I have been installing software on Mac OS for over 12 years and never encountered this or anything similar...any suggestions?

Also, the blacklist seems a tad strange in instruments it doesn't seem to like (Europa, Geist 2, and a lot of others). Now, it won't open at all !!!!!

Weird - Europa VST and Studio One 4 works fine for me. I'm on Windows, though.

OK, uninstalled and going to try again. Hopefully all the content that I installed is still lurking somewhere in Apples ferked up file system and I don't have to go through downloading all that again.

Right, I've re-installed and it seems to be at least starting up ok and the installer volume is no longer appearing on the desktop. The plugins that are blacklisting are the Captain Chords stuff which I understand as it is not yet supported, Europa (puzzling) and all the older FXpansion stuff (everything except Strobe 2). I'll check for any updates and see if that can help.

I can confirm that Europa works in Studio One 4 in Windows, so, probably a Studio One on Mac issue indeed.

Presonus needs to update the waveform graphics in S1, they are terrible compared to Cubase. Cubase 10 is simply an amazing daw to work with waveforms,as the detail is done very well. I still chose S1 ,but it needs some help in the graphics dept.

I re-installed Europa and Geist 2 and both work fine now. Interestingly, the old D Cam synth squad stuff says it is black listed but appears in the browser and loads and operates just fine.

All the soundsets that were downloaded yesterday are still present in their original location but SO4 no longer sees them in the browser, so I guess it is a re-download job... Slowly getting there. I hope I can get this all going good as Studio One is my preferred replacement for Logic when the current iMac dies as I refuse to subscribe to Apple's price gouging bullshit any more and will be switching to Windows.

In a pattern editor you can have many various takes and choose the best one. Very very cool feature. But only if you work with samples (Impact XT).
I wish every line in a pattern could load any instrument too. For instance, if I could use RP Punch in a pattern editor too, as Punch has various pads (channels) too.
