Early reflections from monitors

Hey, I just updated my ''studio'' a bit, and ended up having a reel-to-reel machine sitting between my monitors. My desk is very close to the wall so I put some foam on the front wall, and I'm still waiting for bass traps. So the question is, can/does my R2R cause more early reflections, because it's laced in front of the foam, between my monitors? I really can't tell, because... placebo.

I'd think you'll get at least as many reflections from the desktop surface as from the R2R.
I had a similar issue where monitors had my video monitor right between, got some floor stands flanking my desk - the improvement is significant.
