Guys, thank you so much for such detailed reports.

I'm testing here on Windows 10, Reaper latest version, and I can't get the multi-preset to crash as I change presets. But I will try to figure something out. Still, Windows 7 is very old today, could it be the problem? If you guys think I should really support such older OS I will install here in a virtual-machine to test. :dog:

I will change the SF2 code to load only the selected program/preset samples, as yes, right now it reads the whole thing into memory. And it shouldn't.

Will get back to you guys soon with another version.

Cheers, WilliamK

Windows 7 still has 40% of share of all Windows users (it's as much as Windows 10). So yes, you should. Actually any developer still supports Windows 7. Even the recently launched Cubase 10 still supports Windows 7.

Ok, new file. This time I did update the about box, so please, check if the right version shows there. Should be 1.0.0.74

Nov 23 2018 - V5.0.0 BETA 74

- Fixed problems with SF2 files related to out of tune and slow loading.

I did not change anything in the multi-preset. But still, test this one out to be sure that you are using the latest version as said above.

Cheers, WilliamK

Keep in mind that I didn't mess with the multi-presets yet, but I will.

Yes, I know. "About" box now displays the correct version. I tried the installer in Windows 10 (in another machine) and it fins«ished in an amount of time I consider normal. yet in my Windows 7 machine, it still is painfully slow.

Regarding the crash with the Multi, I think I located the problem with the Multi. It doesn't happen in all instances. Here are the steps to reproduce it:

1. Open your host and launch EVE.
2. Load a preset in a new Multi (I chose new because it is easy to show the bug).
3. The preset loads in slot 2 (should be in 1).
4. Select slot 1. Now you can load a new preset in slot one.
5. Select slot 2. You will see that you can select it.
6. Now select slot 1. Again. (Here I could select).
7. Now select slot 2 again... crash.

I also got a crash by simply add a third and a fourth slot and then tried to select the fourth slot. What's worse, after the crash, my SAVED Multi was corrupted and reproduces what I had before the crash (which was supposedly a new Multi, and wasn't saved).

Don't know if it helps, but here is the message displayed after the crash:

Thanks for the detailed info, step-by-step helps me out a lot. Here I can't make it crash, so I will get a virtual machine to test on Windows 7. I will also re-check my code to see if I'm not doing things out of order.... :dog:

One question, what do you mean by creating a new multi, loading a preset, and it goes to slot 2 instead of 1?

I was just wondering the same thing.
fmr, when you start a new multi are you clicking Add New Instance...if so it will go into slot 2.
To get slot 1 instance you just load a preset...it will replace the 'init' that is already in slot 1.
In other words, there is always a first instance already loaded.

Hi William,
SF2 loading is good now.
CrisisElectrGndPno (in CrisisGeneralMidi301) now is in tune (was 50 cents flat before).

But big problems still with SF2.
Testing with CrisisGeneralMidi301:
Trying to load some patches immediately crashes REAPER, for example the clarinet. I haven't tested every patch.
CrisisAcousticBass loads but the sound is just loud static distortion. (I would recommend to anyone testing to turn EVE V5 master vol way down before loading anything!!)

Just generally...patches seem to sound different to when played in other SF2 players.
William, what SF2 player are you using to compare, and do you have a reasonably extensive collection of sf2 files (including GM) to use for comparisons?

A lot of old soundfonts are pretty crappy anyway, but there's some good stuff as well, and I think that to get Wusik working well for the playing of them would be great for Wusik users and generally an attractive feature.

Hmmm. I may have done something wrong, because now I double checked, and it loads a preset in slot 1. You may ignore that step.

Yes, as I said, I may have done something stupid, and maybe added a new instance before trying to load a preset  :dog:

Crash here is fully reproducible. You just need to load two presets, and then switch from slot 2 to slot 1 and back from slot 1 to slot 2.

Pitch Envelope with + amount...does not return to original pitch after the envelope does its thing.

I'm just wondering whether the layer slot numbers (1 2 3 4 ) that are above the browser would be better just above the layer faders.
