How much is S1 when buying it from the US? I.e. in dollars and without VAT?
Some of the results are weird, like 1/10th of the list price for Air stuff. The point of charity auctions is actually to pay much more than the actual value

No, the point of charity auctions is to get a better deal for yourself while still donating to charity. Why would I spend $200 on something for charity when I can buy it regularly for $170? Makes absolutely no sense. Not to those of us who have to watch their expenditures.fluffy_little_something wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:02 pm How much is S1 when buying it from the US? it's ~$160...
for some listings in the auction, I thought they were going to shoot way higher on the last day, but they didn't and we kind of look like a bunch of low-ballers, no question there, but AIR isn't a good example, because they flog their stuff for a buck all year long.

I don't know exactly! I bought it when it was discounted for $99.
The point of the charity is to gather as much money as possible. I don't know if it should be more than the actual price or not.

Because it's an act of generosity to gather as much as possible for the ones the charity is aimed at. But I understand, if your business is not running profitable then it's just like thatwagtunes wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:06 pmWhy would I spend $200 on something for charity when I can buy it regularly for $170? 110 of 160 dollars is not bad, actually, a better ratio than the two U-he bundles and most other items achievedacYm wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:08 pm it's ~$160...

Well, from the consumer's point of view (unless you're rolling in dough) it makes no sense to pay more. Now if that makes me sound like a cheap SOB, so be it. But I don't have money to throw away. I barely get by as it is.EnGee wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:10 pm I don't know exactly! I bought it when it was discounted for $99.

For me, the charity auctions are for me to get a good deal. If the money goes to a good cause, that's great. But with all the suffering in the world and with all the people and causes in need, there is only so much one person can do anyway. If I was a multi billionaire it would be different. I'd double the high bid on every item and take it all. But I'm not, so I do what I can.
But no, I won't spend $200 on an item if I can buy it regularly for $170.
And if people are honest, I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I'm just not ashamed to say it.

Luftrum didn't ask us to pay more than the actual price! We are not saints, but with the generous companies and developers, we could make a difference and that what counts! There is no shame at all if you bid on something and got it cheap! Something is better than nothing!wagtunes wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:17 pmWell, from the consumer's point of view (unless you're rolling in dough) it makes no sense to pay more. Yes, that's ok, I know many people on KVR are short on cash. Anything is better than nothing...
It was a general remark on such auctions. Usually the prices achieved are absurdly higher than the actual value. Like, Lady Gaga's used toilet paper for $1000 the role

Why not? People here are saying S1 is on its way out and no longer in demand. Obviously that is not the case...EnGee wrote: Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:22 pmI was damn sure you would bring u-he comparison from the charity! Oh man! I think if it was on the "way out" LD would have cut the price dramatically. Or ...he just doesn't need the $$, so he doesn't care. The reason I bought up the Minimoog before was that certain products are always in demand, and their demand fluctuates over time.
