Tell me why I do or don't need the upgrade from Studio One 3 to v 4

Impact XT and the drum editing are probably the biggest ones for me. The chord features are also neat.
I doubt the price is going to get lower than that in the foreseeable future, so you might as well jump on it and get a current version with lots of fixes and improvements coming out regularly. They've already released 4.1 and 4.1.1.

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

This much is true - in the end I had to cave, it won't be cheaper than this, better be a decent 4.5 update though and one that focuses on core functionality like bezier curves, better midi and hardware support (inc OSC and Sysex), Komplete Kontrol integration, not just more addons.zzz00m wrote: Sun Nov 25, 2018 1:54 am The half price upgrade to v4 is a good deal even if you just want to stay current with bug fixes and patches. v3.5 is out to pasture now ...
Slightly regretting it though as it's now scanning my entire plugin folder again - I do hope it doesn't make me have to setup my customized plugin folders again.

Never mind it did retain my V3 settings, everything looks pretty much the same in fact. Hoping for MPE support in 4.5 as well.

I got it because using Revoice Pro with v3 was giving me the shits. Will v4 be any better? Supposedly, but haven't had the chance to try the theory yet.

I went ahead with it, as noted above, it's not going to be cheaper than this.
Related, my music computer's drive isn't full, but it's getting there. Is it a bad idea to uninstall v3, then install v4? Will it still keep track of my customized plugin folders etc?

Just to be safe I installed 4, made sure everything imported, then deleted 3 (on Mac that's easier though)
It did keep all my custom folders etc

I still have version 2.6, and version 3.56 installed, uninstalling what in effect is just saving 210 Megabytes, whilst having a lot of music produced with version 3 isn't really worth it. They can both happily exist being able to access the same resources. I changed the path for where my version 4 songs are saved though and copied over a set of folders of where I had started other songs in version 3.5 to a new folder for V4.0, because I don't want to accidentality save over those created in V3. Essentially it's a safe guard for anything which may have changed between version 3 and 4.dwozzle wrote: Mon Nov 26, 2018 11:13 am I went ahead with it, as noted above, it's not going to be cheaper than this.

The settings you have set for Studio One 3 & 4 are independent from one another, if you want them to be, but if you install version 4 whilst still having version 3 installed, you'll find that references to plugins, soundsets will remain the same but the save directory for version 4 songs, ect will naturally be different.
This is is on the PC platform.
