So after seeing this thread (or part of it) I went to Steinberg to see if my recent 9.5 purchase qualified, clicked on the BUY CUBASE PRO 10 box > Updates & Upgrades > Update from Cubase Pro 9.5 > Cubase Pro 10 Update from Cubase Pro 9.5 £85 > Add To Cart > Proceed To Checkout...

Now I'm sure if I'd of carried on I could of paid £85 to buy it, yet I was within 'Grace Period', but not one mention of this anywhere within the purchase proceedure, it is only because someone mentioned on another forum this may be the case that I looked elsewhere on their site for the info and found this page:

https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/grace_period.html

low and behold this updated my Elicenser to Cubase Pro 10(You can copy paste your serial from ELC using the 'Registration' tab > Select Elicenser > Copy Serial Number).

Just why oh why do Steinberg not put this info or link about Grace periods anywhere in the purchase procedure/shop?

Says 4 - 6 weeks grace depending on product btw.

OK so now the dust has settled, was the upgrade worth it ? From what I see on social media, the general concencus is no, there isn't a whole lot different from 9.5 and it actually introduces more bugs.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

I usually wait until January to upgrade - by then the worst bugs are usually sorted out. I generally do a full install so that if there are issues I simply uninstall and go back to the previous version.

In my opinion, if you have the pro version, than yes, it's worth it.
Artist and Elements don't have any major improvements other than new gui and graphics.
I am a graphic whore so I've upgraded, but I feel that it was not worth it at the end of the day.

So I took the plunge and got the upgrade. Having lost a chunk of valuable SSD space I used the library manager to move the content it can do - fine and dandy.
I then moved a bunch of stuff to my E drive from the Steinberg folder (the one with about 10 GBs of content in it) from the C drive and used the link thing to make it work.
So Cubase worked ok until I loaded Reverence and it couldn't find the impulse wavs :dog:

I ended up junking both 9.5 and 10 from the pc and reinstalling 10. Moved the movable content but left the Steinberg folder alone and Reverence worked ok.
Have people moved the Steinberg folder ok and if so any guesses on what could've gone wrong?

Grum.

Dude, I had the same fiasco a year ago when I built my new machine. It's a huge pain in the ass if you try to manually move stuff. During the installation, you have to pay very close attention to the "Library Path" that it's going to install the massive library files to and don't blow by it. That's where I made my mistake thinking that I could fix it afterwards. Cubase (particularly Halion) doesn't like it when you manually move stuff.

As far as I could tell I didn't have a choice of where the libraries are dumped. Click on install and it installs it! It good that the Steinberg Library Manager can move certain items but it seems the other items are stuck on the C drive if you want to guarantee success - unless someone has done the link thing I tried and it did work 100% ok (rather than the 90% I managed).

It's there. You're just suffering from Cubase install vertigo.
That's why I was saying, you have to look very carefully at each of the installer splash screens. It's so simple, it's stupid, but totally easy to miss. I was kicking myself afterwards.

There's a Steinberg Knowledgebase article about this.

With the launch of Cubase 10, there is no longer the option of installing for 'all users' or 'just you'. In other words, you are presented with the choice of install path for the program, but NOT where the content goes. The new Steinberg Library Manager (separate app found in the Additional Content folder), is provided to allow full control over your contents/library location, after install is complete.

In summary, the ability to choose where to place the library sounds at install, has been removed.
System 1 - Win11; i9 13900HK miniPC; 64Gb; Iris XE graphics; UR44 i/o; Cubase 15.0.30; Studio Pro v8.1; WLab Pro 13.0.20
System 2 - Win10; i7 4790; 16Gb; GTX750Ti; Cubase v14.0.41; WLab Pro v12.0.51; StudioOne v6.6.4

Thank you for the info. My libraries were in place already after the last fiasco, so I didn't have to worry about it on this round. I was thinking the installer was the same as before. I'll remember this for the next full install which I will avoid like the plague.

And that's why I wrote my post in this thread!
To reiterate, I want to be able to move the 15 GB (it's even bigger than I thought!) Steinberg folder from C drive ProgramData to my E drive using the mlink utility without it messing up like it did the first time (i.e. no impulse WAVs in Reverence).

On Mac I do this by moving .vstsound to a seperate drive then putting alias shortcuts in the cubase folder on the system drive.

No idea how/if that would work on PC though.

I just moved all of it and then started Cubase. It complained about not finding content with an option to locate it, so I pointed it to the new location. This had to be done for every file, about 40 of them.

I've had no issues since then.

Use the new Steinberg Library Manager..? This is exactly its job; find it in the Additional Content folder, wherever your Cubase 10 program is located. Have a read of the User Guide in there (only a few pages). Hope it helps.!

I've said I used the Steinberg Library Manager for the content it can move. It's the other stuff that isn't controlled by the Library Manager that I'm interested in.....well I was interested in but I'm pig sick of it all now.
