"Some people love the Fender Stratocaster but I think they are best used for firewood."

It is probably just that you don't know what you are doing, that's all. I am of course joking but
it is a strange statement really given the great music made using strats.

Or skill....or experience.....

Once again "it can't" and "I can't" are two completely different things.

Exactly. I could complain that I don't sound that great playing my $700 drum kit but I bet Carl Palmer would rock the walls down on my $700 drum kit.

Akai timbrewolf challenge anyone? :hihi:

I was of course joking since I used to own a Strat. Of course Mick Mars and others make awesome music with the Strat but I've heard people argue until they are blue in the face that they aren't guitars for Metal. Obviously they are wrong.

But it wasn't my first choice....did I mention I used to own a Strat ? I chose another guitar for my music but you don't see me in every Strat thread spreading nonsense like it can't do Metal.

That has been my point the whole time. Don't like a synth ? Fine, move on. Don't spread nonsense about it.....

I don't know why people pick on that synth. I've heard worse. At least it's in tune and makes sounds that "could" be useful. Greatest synth ever? Probably not, but it's not unusable.

Well said. That sums up my point perfectly....... :tu:

Ok gentlemen keep talking about synths I'm going in to play mine and spurred on by this thread I think I'll give Sylenth some time today and spend time enjoying Dune 2's wonderfully warm sounds.... :D

And I'm getting away from ALL the synths and doing a track with acoustic drums, electric bass, virtual guitars and vocals.

But would he choose your 700 bucks drumkit over the other options he may have?

The problem with these discussions is that "I think X is not the best available choice for Y" is often confused with "X can't Y" which is ends up with loads of posts like "it's not X, it's you" which are completely irrelevant to what was originally said.

Oh I read it and also saw the fact that you didn't correct your error. Perhaps be a bit more careful when posting in the future.
I am always careful when posting. Still, errors have happened and will continue to happen, even to me  To err is human as they say...
And no, I don't change the content of my posts in hindsight (except typos), it ruins the flow and logic of a linear thread, where people quote and reply to each other...

Maybe he wouldn't, but does every pro rock drummer play on a $10,000 kit? I'm sure if I go back through the history of rock, there have been some amazing performances on what we would consider crappy drum kits.

And then of course after the drums are recorded the engineer does his magic and the drums don't sound anything like they did playing live anyway.

It has be proven time and time again in the One Synth Challenge that you can make amazing sounding music with all free stuff. I can't, because I'm not that talented. But there are people who can.

So again I will say that it isn't the gear but the person using it.

It's probably both, talent and gear. Not to mention motivation...
And they are tied to each other, a good sounding instrument is more inspiring than a poor sounding instrument.

And who defines poor sounding? Again, this is all just opinion.

Well, as a former bass player I can tell you that it makes a big difference whether you play a MusicMan Stingray with its famous sound or a much more affordable, bland Samick bass, which was all I could afford back then. I am sure I would have practiced harder if I had had a bass whose sound had impressed and inspired me more...
