The thing Q3 offers with its dynamic eq is ease of use - you just drag on a band and it become dynamic. you dont have to do anything else. all other dynamic eq's I've seen including melda require a lot more work to dial in the nature of the band. The trick with the Q3 approach is, does it sound good - does it do the job - so far in my testing, and i've also tried to 'break" it - it handles the job very well without doing any further work. pretty amazing.

The Melda one has attack/release times which is an important feature - so I spoke a bit too soon, but the automatic detection in Pro-Q3 is very good, just not if you want to shape the attack/release times yourself (e.g. when using it on pads/soundscapes where you would want smooth attack/release times). Then the Melda one has a good sounding saturation plus some other fancy things...so they compliment each other very well I would say.Soarer wrote: ↑Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:59 pmSimon why will it easily substitute Melda’s MAutoDynamicEQ?Sampleconstruct wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 12:25 pm Bought the upgrade from version2 blind-folded, here is a quick test of the dynamic EQ functions on a very resonant tabla sound, now PRO-Q3 will easily substitute my goto dynamic EQ (Melda), plus it does all the things I was used to from version2, great update!

That one has been my goto EQ for years now but I’m interested in what I’ll get with Pro-Q 3 if I get it. Is it just because of the more sleek GUI?

I can only say that FabFilter Pro-Q3 rocks big time. This is yet another amazing upgrade. It is indeed the best EQ experience ever. The dynamic EQ works so well and the whole thing looks so good, I’ve thrown every competitor in the bin (at least for a while).

The Melda one also allows you to side chain off another track, as well as poco Dynamic EQ and I believe Waves F6, possibly Sonnox?, however Q3 doesn't do that, you can only view the spectrum of the side-chain input. The built in tilt eq is helpful and I really like the sound of natural phase mode, but I find it odd this feature was not included. Perhaps they assume users will use other tools to side-chain?

I don't think Fabfilter cares about anyone's ear development and they shouldn't have to. Its about making a great EQ, which they have. If it comes with a visual aid, what's so bad about that? Its up to the user to train their own ears and learn how to use plugins properly.synth guru wrote: ↑Sat Dec 01, 2018 6:55 pm Copying Waves F6 Dynamic EQ and marking it up above $29, seems like a big brainer to me.
Who doesn't need another visually dependent training software, giving your ears less experience and development.

Don't wanna get too OT but does the e27 have this rolloff even with the 28K switch engaged?
Back OT, I don't own Pro-Q but this looks like a worthy update. People have been clamoring for dynamic EQ on the FabFilter forum for years.

You’ve got a point man. If dynamic EQ is what you’re after, then there are lots of cheaper options out there. They might not be as pretty or convenient but they are far cheaper.synth guru wrote: ↑Sun Dec 02, 2018 5:11 amJoaquinAce wrote: ↑Sun Dec 02, 2018 1:53 amI don't think Fabfilter cares about anyone's ear development and they shouldn't have to. But it’s like anything else really. Why get a BMW when a VW will do the exact same thing most of the time and almost the exact same thing the rest? And while we’re at, why not just get a Toyota? A Kia?
I know You get what I’m saying. People will pay a premium if they can afford it for performance, comfort, convenience. I know I do.
I’m using TDR Nova GE for dynamic EQ - which I got less than Waves - and I can already understand why Pro-Q 3 is appealing. I’ve got an EDU discount and other discounts on top so I will end up buying it eventually. But for full price. Hell no. If was a pro or made of money? For sure.
Now, we can talk principles till the cows come home. For whatever reason, Pro-Q can demand that price.

Its a good time to be producing music since there are so many good plugins these days.
What makes this EQ so attractive is the combination of features, quality and reasonable CPU usage.

Fabfilter pro q 2 and 3 cpu usage is as low as FL studio parametric eq 2 just with added features like midside dynamic eq, amazing visualizer, practical gui, syncronisation between instances. Its very convinient and can be used as go to eq with premium features. All other eqs like nova tdr, toneboosters ect may offer some degree of that but not as well as optimised as fabfilter. Therefore i rather have 1 powerful eq that i can use as default one then bunch of that uses significant amount of cpu making me do compromises. I dont think many people take this in to consideration what makes a premium tool to be premium with a premium price.
