I assume you mean SQ8L
As far as i remember the 'L' in SQ8L stands for 'Light' and the 'X' version was to become an extended version.

(Which obviously never materialized.)
Correct.
That's interesting. I didn't know there was supposed to be an "extended" version. Yeah, that would have been pretty cool.

Probably would have. As far as i remember the thing was that the developer wasnt entirely happy with the behavior of some people (to put it diplomatically) and ultimately it pissed him off so much that he scrapped the whole thing and also abandoned the 'L' version too. Ever since, complete radiosilence.

That's an insult to U-he or a great compliment to Arturia. :hihi:

I just think U-he do a much better job of soft synths.

Hi Guys,

I'm having a bit of trouble getting the "jx-8poriginalbanks.PG8Xbank" bank to work correctly.

When I load it, all 64 patches are there, but the first 32 just play the INIT tone and none of the parameters are set - other than the patch-name, which seems fine.

The second group of patches 32-64 all work fine.

I'm running PG-8x 2.0.13 64-bit Windows.

Cheers,

Mike.

I had a similar problem with one of the banks when using the 64-bit version of the synth. I couldn't load the "PG*Xbank" file, but I could load the SYSEX version. With the 32-bit version of the synth, I had no problems. But if @Layzer is having the same problem with the 32-bit version, we may be talking about two different banks. I think the problem I was having was with the synth, since the 32-bit version would load the bank, where the 64-bit version wouldn't. I mentioned it to the developer, but I guess he was too busy ironing out other kinks to look at it.

Try the SYSEX version of the bank (if you have it), and see if that loads. If it does, you'll at least be able to use it or able to try to save it out as its own bank.

i think the uploader of the
jx-8poriginalbanks.PG8Xbank
bank, saved it with a bunch of
init data on patches 1-32 of the .pg8x bank file.
available here:
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/pg-8x- ... /downloads
it can prob be fixed with a little effort by obtaining the
original sysex of the 1-32 patch data and replacing the init data within
the x-8poriginalbanks.PG8Xbank file.

EDIT:

I fixed it myself. here it is for anyone else wanting the fixed bank!

try it let me know if it works for ya too!

Cool, thanks! I'll try this out tonight.

And for what it's worth, I think that as soon as most of us saw your line about "it can prob be fixed with a little effort..." we were hoping you'd then take it upon yourself to exert that "little effort" and update us with the results. (Kidding, of course. )

Steve

EDIT: I just tried this, and while I still wasn't able to open the "default.pg8xbank" file while using the 64-bit version of the synth, I was able to open the file Layzer made, with no problems. Thanks again, @Layzer!

Thank you, Layzer! Works just fine on Sierra 10.12.6, Live 10.0.5.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

how come none of these factory patches have any portamento? the original had it, right?
bit confused about that. any relation with the bug in the patch recall?

Even if the patches were saved with portamento, there's a bug in the synth that keeps it from working when the patches are recalled. I mentioned that here back on October 9, and others have been able to recreate the problem.

I'm not sure if the dev has given up on the synth or just this thread (which tended to go pretty far OT every so often), since he hasn't been back here in months.
