That was my guess but I wasn't completely sure. That thing is like a sprinkle of MSG for sound design. Awesome!

Maybe it has always been like this but the Lead Piano patch in the default library causes a ton of CPU spikes and clicks in Logic and Studio One at 64 and 128 buffer settings (with nothing else playing). I have a very powerful iMac so this shouldn’t be happening.
not that I know about.
btw quite small buffer sizes. I have 512 and its still perfect playable. You should at least do 256

Hey,

i am new to music production and i bought the fabfilter bundle, Avenger and Falcon.

Here are a few questions i have:

1.) how strong are the advenger fx. Say i put reverb on the end of my chain. Would it make more sense to use FabFilter plugin outside on the track?

2.) is there a new GUI to Advenger? I really like the standard one but i just wonder...

3.) Does anyone here use Falcon and does it make sense for me to first dig deep into Avenger
and then learn Falcon afterwards?

Best Regards

You play at 512?
I could never... would have to quantize like crazy.
My system of maybe 6 years ago I did 256 and had to quantize.
Now I use 64 (maybe 128 I might be able to get awaywith) is what I use and I rarely have to quantize unless it is loops or somethings that have to be time synced.

Yes all live videos are played at 512.
You always have to quantize (human inaccuracy) if you want it exactly. But its just pressing "Q" in Cubase. It does not matter if I press Q when played at 64, or if I press Q when played in 512. But 512 gives me so much more CPU power. Once you have your Midis played, it does not matter any more however. T

Even with Asio Guard? Interesting....... I think that was part of the purpose of Asio Guard. see I don't like to quantize..... unless I have to.
I love the human inaccuracy. But I don't really do dance music.

But I don't really do dance music.

That seems the difference ;)

But even for Hollywood stuff, I quantize first, then apply humanize. This is more controllable.

1) Good in general, all usable and some really cool. The reverbs specifically are pretty good for a synth, but both Pro-R and the Falcon reverbs are hard competitors. Especially Pro-R is a completely different beast imho.
2) There are two additional GUIs, I use one of these all the time.
3) Hard to say, both are a bit different but cover a lot of similar ground with regard to possibilities and I wouldn't say that you need both if you are mostly interested in making your own patches. I am still using both. Falcon is more complex and is especially good for some of the granular oscillators, MPE integration and patches that need a lot of FX or extensive layering and scripting. Avenger is also very capable, but more limited in direct comparison and less flexible with regard to the architecture. However, it is a bit more streamlined for a fast workflow, Falcon might feel a bit more clunky, but that also depends on personal taste and methods. (Also, both synths are not very capable with regard to wavetable synthesis imho, in case you are looking for something in that regard.)

2) where can i get these? :)
3) ok i have no clue about what wavetable synthesis really is. I own Alchemy (comes with logic), Serum and now bought these two because i read very good reviews about them.
I think i learn Avenger first and then add Falcon and just see where it takes me.

2) I think they come directly with the synth, I don't remember downloading additional skins for this one. Just open the SYS tab and then select the skin you like under SKIN.
3) Serum has all the wavetable stuff covered. And then some. You should be fine :D

512 buffer is pretty high, especially when recording live with other tracks and fitting into their groove.

Any chance for a “low quality” setting like Diva has to reduce CPU when recording? Or further CPU optimizations?

Post

Avenger has arp midi out; Falcon does not.

I already love it! Even though I only have it for a few days.

Unfortunately it seems quite bugy at least with my newest Mac Book Pro (Avenger took 10% CPU at max).
Sometimes logic shuts down because of Avenger or closing Avenger takes ages. Also sometimes
Avenger goes totally mute. Even when I reload Avenger&my default preset no sound. Have to
close logic and restart it for the sound to come back. All other non Avenger tracks are still fine.

I also fail using the resampler so far but that's probably just me.

edit: ok the resampler works it was just me :hihi:
