been given a little bit of a challenge. A friend want's me to put togther a 'funky' micheal jackson sounding track similar to "Thriller" or "Off The Wall". Funky bassline's and tight beat's.
Problem is i've never produced music like this nor can find any good example's by other fruity user's!
Does anyone have any example's of this type of work in fruity? I am also intresting in studying how to produce R&B if anyone has this too?
Thank's in advance!

Check out some of the demo songs that came with FLStudio, especially those by Reegz.
Hints for bassline: double up one of those 3osc bass patches with booBass or Plucked!
Hints for guitar: use a sampled guitar riff or use Slayer and the strum quantize feature.
Hints for drums: groove quantize using the funky 16ths setting.
If you follow these tips the result will be pretty uninpsiring and robotic, so the best advice I can give you is LISTEN YOUR ASS OFF (translation: immerse yourself in it, morning, noon, and night for the next month and a half) to the kind of music you want to produce.

Some quick tips:
Both Jackson and Prince used Linndrums on their classic tracks, so use either the rather basic linndrum sounds that come with FLStudio, or pick up a more detailed set on the net. Use of quality analog-modeling synths like impOSCar, Fabfilter One, etc. is key to some of those funky basslines and arps. I recommend not trying to use Slayer 1 for the R&B guitar, because I have yet to hear a convincing use for it on anything other than hard rock/metal/industrial. Same goes for most sample sets. The best thing for Guitar and most E-Bass is to bring in a session player to lay down some licks and use that instead. I would also recommend not using the FL Keys for authentic E-Piano & Tonewheel organ sounds. I would rather pick up a decent multi-sample library or modeling synth like Lounge Lizard in the case of EPs, and something like B4 in the case of tonewheel organ sounds. You should master using something like Vintage Warmer or Tube to get a vintage feel to the mix. Finally, try to play the sounds as much as possible live, and don't quantize. Keep it organic and live and you should be ok.
