Haven't seen any mention of MPE. Would be strange if it wasn't included since The legend has a basic version of it. Much more useful with a mod matrix though. Did they not add MPE support to this?

Maybe Richard can tell. I remember he wrote here once that the sound is not going to change. Again, disregarding the obvious changes of - different filters - different fx's - different waveforms in the oscillators. Etc.zvenx wrote: Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:26 pm Did a simple 8 bar look, using three factory presets from Dune 2... Played with both D2 and D3....
Can you tell which is which.
File 1: The first loop is 8 bars of one, then 8 bars of the other, and then 2 more 8 bar loops. (that is 32 bars in total)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6brvzpv7l3tt4 ... dl=0
File 2 is 8 bars of one
https://www.dropbox.com/s/915m5sxkbkhkj ... dl=0
File 3 is 8 bars of the other.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2dbt1rjrfq97p ... dl=0
Alas with drop box you either right click and open them in a new tab or download them to play.
But from File 1 which of the four 8 bars is D2 and which of the four 8 bars are D3.
In Files 2 and 3, A & B, which is D2 and which is D3
For me. I think I initially heard the difference, but when I let the 32 bars loop without looking at the DAW, I couldn't tell them apart.
See if D2 is really plasticky and D3 natural.

They are all D2 factory presets, so indeed should not be using any of the new stuff.
But should be a good way to compare the audio engine itself.
And no external, efx, eq's, compressors or even limiters were used.

Well, I think Dune 3 sounds fantastic and looks really cool too! The dual arps, WT editor, Dual filters and extra fx control (ie, the EQ) alone make the upgrade well worth it. SA has done a fine job here and the upgrade price is a no-brainer. For that matter, the full price is too! That's a lot of synth power for that price! Dune 2 is a sound designers dream in my opinion. Now Dune 3 makes it even better! Thanks SA. Well done!

Thanks for that. It sounds basically the same to me and if there is a difference its not substantial enough to warrant an upgrade based on the engine alone.zvenx wrote: Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:26 pm Did a simple 8 bar look, using three factory presets from Dune 2... Played with both D2 and D3....

Yeah I don't want to sound like I'm complaining. Dune is amazing, but I'm just trying to get away from buying every new synth that comes out. There needs to be a valid reason to have it otherwise I might as well just keep using what i have....which is way too many synths.DonaldM75 wrote: Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:40 pm Well, I think Dune 3 sounds fantastic and looks really cool too! I find it so strange that Synapse Audio just throw a demo at me and don't give a damn about any presentations or any marketing.
No sound demos or audio demos on their website. Nothing on their youtube channel....Just saying 'The Best Dune Ever' lol
Not even anyone on Youtube really cares. Can find 2 random (!) videos with a demonstration where only one of them is good.
if you want to watch
And then I see this crazy price tag.... as a product, this does look BAD. Also for the company in my opinion.
Please convince me to buy this one, you gotta make it shine in some fancy presentation. You have to throw this one out there like a grenade. Can you remember how they presented 'The Legend'? I was hyped!!!!! I am one of those impulse buyers, you get me with a good hype. When I saw this surprising release, I was really excited because I LOVE the sound of Dune 2, but now I am already losing interest on Day 2 (or3?).
Yes I know, you are going to tell me now to try out the demo.
I don't want that, I like to check production related news on my mobile phone in bed or whatever. It is 2018 and the scene is huge. And if I find a product that looks/sounds great, THEN I try out the demo or straight away make a purchase.
This is exactly how they got me to buy the legend, no hesitation, and I still love the synth.
This way it looks like they simply don't have anything to show / are lazy / don't think their own synth is worth it.
Just my thoughts!!
It not too late, Synapse. Go make a great presentation or hire someone to do it. Just demonstrate the new functions. Show some cool presets. I mean you guys have developed this thing, should be ez.

totally thought the MPE was the reason for the delay, but I don't have an MPE controller yet, so can't give feedback.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:29 pm Haven't seen any mention of MPE. @Seelachsfilet: https://soundcloud.com/synapseaudio/set ... emo-sounds

I'd suggest demoing it anyway, though.

It's an EDM upgrade at that, One that everyone told them was bloat, but after playing with it I got hooked just like I did Dune2. Dune2 is much more efficient on resources, but dune has always been a unique and addictive sound I can't turn away from personally, its like a plucked tennis racket.

Dasheesh and EDM. The never ending conspiracy theory.
BTW, i didn't notice that Dune 3 is "much less efficient on resources". It's very light here, like Dune 2 already was. Actually, amazingly light for the quality of the filters. Richard is a wizard.

I'm too old for that ish man, EDM is for 15 year olds in sun glasses and too small bikinis, but I understand it sells. What I do like are the new sounds that are coming out of these things. BTW, I said dune 2 was "much less on resources".chk071 wrote: Tue Dec 11, 2018 12:01 am Dasheesh and EDM. The never ending conspiracy theory.

@chk071 Thank you Sir. Listening to the presets now, have not thought of checking soundcloud...
But this does still not change my mind about this whole release.

So you mean Dune 2 or Dune 3 is more heavy on resources?
As i mentioned, i find them pretty much the same CPU intensive.

Trying to find the perfect copy protection is like squaring a circle:Vertion wrote: Mon Dec 10, 2018 9:17 pm Well from my view, no copy protection protects software, it's a nag screen at best. What stands in my way of these practices, is my refusal to use my knowledge to remove the copy protection by strict moral choice. I wouldn't write this without competent experience.
So, I see it as nothing more than an honor system. Copy protection is a joke. So there is a certain level of expectation that there is honor in return, given this knowledge and my investment.
- If the protection is purely serial based or there is none, the software will be leaked at some point (usually quickly), and some honest customers start to wonder why they paid for something that is "free".
- If there is a protection, then some honest people who are usually not customers (but could be customers) complain that there is one.
