For your information -actually more for the information of those who will read this- I collaborate with Xils, like I collaborate with many companies, on different levels. I created StiX for example. No mystery here. So I don't work for them, I work with them. And I represent myself when the subject is StiX for example. Should be pretty simple to understand (But still seems a bit over your possibilities for several years now.) But maybe speaking of Xils reminds you of good souvenirs ? Who knowsAnX wrote: Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:07 pm
why would he mention them, he doesn't work for them or represent them![]()

Time to post some music
It's an idea I working on (started with Dune2). I had some crackles while testing with multi-threading enabled. Maybe this is only under some circumstances, but to be on the safe side, I have it disabled.
Both samples 1:31.
This are only the tracks with Dune3 soloed. The gate is not from the MSEGs, it's a gate effect. I have not found a way to gate the complete output in Dune (with the FX included) to achieve a similar effect.
Sleepless In Berlin - Dune3
... and here together with the other tracks (Cypher2, Repro, Nord etc)

I wouldn't care for what the beta testers or the fans say! Personally, Richard is the only official person I care of what's he writes here.
My personal experiences with SA is overall positive especially with Richard. He is very polite and a friendly person, so that I support his company (the same about Urs).
The asking upgrade price is not bad really! The main point is for me is two filters can be used now with added great new filters. I don't care about a second ARP or Wavetable editor, but that seems important for the EDM crowd I guess. All the new additions are without a burden on the CPU! That is remarkable really. Dune 2 is already a great synth, so this is an evolution of Dune 2
Yes, I wish there are enhancements to the workflow and GUI design. At least different colours for the layers! The modulation should be down in the keys/FX section with enough room to see. The Arps/sequence needs more work. In short it is messy for me to edit the factory presets. So, IMO, it is better to have my own presets from scratch using just one or two layers normally, but I'm not committed to make Dune 2/3 my main synth yet!
I'm not in a hurry though to upgrade. I'll wait first for Massive X and Zebra 3, but as EDM genres means nothing to me, but still interested in Electronica/Ambient, Zebra 3 is still on my list, but I doubt I get all the three (Massive X, Dune 3 and Zebra 3) especially that Reaktor 6 is more important than any of the three for me and it lasts a lifetime to master just the ensembles connections possibilities
But one thing is sure, if Dune 2 is my main synth, then D3 will be a no brainer upgrade. $79 is not a lot for upgrading my main synth that I use daily

I think all stages of envelopes should be able to have infinite times and also the ability to type in precise values when needed. Sometimes you need a slow decay that lasts the entire song especially for textures and fx.

Sorry, I asked if anyone at Synapse would mind if I shared skin color edits and got not response so I have to assume they would mind.
So I stopped working on any color edits I wouldn't use myself.....

Could not agree with you more, especially about the "snobbery" stance that so many take in regard to using presets. And it's actually more being myopic than snobby, if you ask me. Reminds me of way back (in the 80's) when electronic-based music first started gaining mass popularity. Many of my band/orchestra colleagues were so against anything electronic... to the point of lunacy. They tried to pass themselves off as "musical purists" but in reality, they were just closed minded musicians that refused to see the music scene evolving. If using presets is sooooo bad, then why do you hear Nexus sounds on so many songs today? And before I get flamed for being a nexux fanboy, i do not own or use it, nor will i ever (unless they nix the dongle and severely drop their prices, neither of which are likely to happen).Teksonik wrote: Tue Dec 11, 2018 4:02 pmKevin's Presets show what Dune 3 can do not what it must do.zvenx wrote: Tue Dec 11, 2018 3:42 pm A lot of your presets sound complete already, which will work for some producers/composers but not for others.![]()
You can take D3 all the way down to a single Voice (Layer) with a single Osc and go from there. It can be the simplest synth in the world but it can also do very complex sounds for those of us who got bored with simple sounds many years ago.
Sure you could take one of Kevin's patches, add a drum track and have a nearly complete song or you could shut the Arps off in that patch and use your own sequence data.
Anybody who refuses to use any presets made by someone else is simply missing out on musical inspiration and failing to take advantage of other people's skills and talents. I have nothing but pity for them.![]()
I love making my own patches but I'll use another person's patch in a heartbeat if I find it musically inspiring. This snobbery that we have to do everything ourselves is ridiculous in my opinion. But that's the difference between musicians and "producers". Musicians know that inspiration can come from others since they have been in what were called "Bands" where several musicians freely exchanged ideas and inspiration.

thanks for trying. i opened it up and tried to do it myself today but i have no idea what i'm doing with these computer things lol. four different leds, none of which look like the ones i need, and the script specifies rgb but i wasn't sure where to add it, or if i have to... i feel like the grandpa in the simpsons, i'll keep trying to see if i figure it out. looks like he built it to be skinned at some point tho. looks pretty simple for people who know what they are looking at. just assumed it was built to be skinned. dune 2 was.Teksonik wrote: Thu Dec 13, 2018 11:37 pmSorry, I asked if anyone at Synapse would mind if I shared skin color edits and got not response so I have to assume they would mind.

Oh yes it's built to be skinned but there is a difference in creating your own skin and editing one created by someone else. I don't want to disrespect whoever created the default skin by sharing an edit without their permission.
They didn't say "no" but the post went unanswered so I just have to wait until / if they say yes.
There are a bunch of third party skins for Dune 2 so hopefully we'll see some for D3. (nothing wrong with the default but choice is always nice).

The only times I find the values helpful is when you are trying to find something very precisely. e.g. If you start at 60, turn it down to 50 and then realise you want something exactly in between, you know you need 55.
What difference would that make? It's something you do by ear, not with a calculator.fluffy_little_something wrote: Thu Dec 13, 2018 5:33 pm It might be more useful if envelope times were shown in ms and s, instead of %, especially since they are not linear.
Seriously? Can you explain what difference it makes when the mouse movement to alter either is EXACTLY THE SAME?Hard to say. Maybe I was simply looking for some sort of orientation as the knobs are so different from sliders, they seem to cover only 270° of the full circle. I just don't like knobs for envelopes
And that works, regardless of the tempo? e.g. At 90bpm and at 140bpm?chk071 wrote: Thu Dec 13, 2018 6:16 pm Well... it can be useful. E.g. for pads, i have a certain "sweet spot" at about 5 to 6 seconds attack time, and 7 or 8 seconds release time.
If anyone is so f**king stupid that they'd allow someone they don't like to colour their opinion of something that person does like, then they would be nothing but a useless waste of space. Make up your own mind but do it objectively, FFS.Calandria wrote: Thu Dec 13, 2018 8:22 pm You are like a guard Dog, a lame one that hurts the good reputation of Synapse Audio, but go ahead.
I've stated what I wanted to.
Yeah, you should look at the back covers of Queen records. On their early releases they used ot say "no keyboards used on this album". Then, when Freddie played piano on Bohemian Rhapsody, they had to change it to "no synthesisers", then eventually they had to drop it altogether when they started using synths, too. It just made them look like even bigger tools.GabryRox wrote: Thu Dec 13, 2018 11:55 pmReminds me of way back (in the 80's) when electronic-based music first started gaining mass popularity. I would turn the pop up value readings off if I could.
Normally I'm looking at the slider or knob pointer and not the readout value.

It looks like we can expect a right click "add to modulation" option relatively soon, once the bugs have been ironed out. This is wonderful news
